CAM  31

It was a defensive battle on Saturday as two ranked teams and contenders for the Rolling Valley Conference battled for a share of the Conference lead. The Crusaders defense was strong for three quarters, holding CAM to 13-points heading into the 4th quarter. The Cougars defense was just as strong, trailing the Crusaders 17-13 heading into the 4th quarter. CAM was able to get revenge for Coon Rapids Bayard win at CAM earlier this season, getting their offense going in the 4th quarter, rallying for a 6-point win. They scored 18-points in the 4th quarter while continuing to limit the Crusaders offense. CAM got a pair of 3’s from Eva Steffensen and a couple key baskets from Carley Dennis.  The Crusaders led the entire game but struggled to score in the 2nd quarter when they had a chance to extend their lead. The Crusaders defense came up with 16 steals but they weren’t able to turn those into easy points, causing them to have to work against the Cougars half-court defense. The loss drops Coon Rapids Bayard to 9-3 overall and 8-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference, two full games behind the Cougars, who improved to 11-1 and 8-1.

Malia Clayburg and Breeley Clayburg led the Crusaders with 6-points each with both having 4 steals. Malia added 9 rebounds with Breeley having 8 rebounds. Anna Hart added 5 steals with Lydia Hofbauer finishing with 5 rebounds and Aubrey Hofbauer with 5-points.
