Brock Badding set a new school record for made 3’s in a single game, hitting 10-15 from beyond the arc the the record breaker coming from the baseline. The Knights finished with 16-3’s partially due to the defensive game plan of the Panthers, who early in the game were collapsing on the dribble drive, allowing the Knights open looks. The Knights raced out to a 14-0 lead, setting the tempo for the game, but the Panthers fought back, cutting the Knights lead to 16-13 early in the 2nd quarter. Kuemper shot the ball well early, then went cold and the Panthers made a run. That was the theme of the game, with Kuemper getting double digit leads only to have Kingsley Pierson make a run. The Knights led by 17 in the 3rd quarter, only to have the lead trimmed to 7 entering the 4th quarter. The Knights dominated the 4th with Badding knocking down 3-3’s and Carson Kanne scoring 10 of his 15-points in the final stanza. The Knights outscored the Panthers 25-13 over the final eight minutes.
Tregan Beiter has made a living this season helping Kuemper start fast and Friday was no different. He scored the Knights first-five points and was strong on defense. Brock Badding hit a pair of early 3’s and Kuemper was up 14-0 before Kingsley got comfortable. The lead was 14-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Panthers finished their 11-0 run with the first-five points of the 2nd quarter but Carson Kanne hit a big bucket inside to give Kuemper the momentum back. Kanne scored again and Tregan Beiter added a 3, followed by a Brock Badding 3 and Kuemper was up 24-13. Kingsley Pierson pulled within 6 but Tregan Beiter made a pair of free throws to make it a 8-point game. The Panthers trimmed the lead to 26-23 but Beiter again came up clutch with a pair of baskets, followed by back-to-back 3’s from Brock Badding. Kuemper led 36-25 at half.
The lead grew to 17, early in the 3rd with with Michael Kasperbauer hitting a corner 3 and Brock Badding adding a pair of 3’s. Kingsley Pierson responded with a 9-0 run before Tregan Beiter made it 47-38 in favor of Kuemper. Kingsley Pierson scored the next 4-points, pulling within 47-42 but Tregan Beiter put Kuemper up 49-42 at the end of the 3rd. Carson Kanne started the 4th with a 3, followed by a 3 from Brock Badding, a 2 from Carter Putney and another 2 from Carson Kanne. The Knights had stretched the lead to 59-42 and were in control of the game. Brock Badding hit his final 3 from the corner with a couple minutes left and both teams emptied the bench. Neither team scored over the final couple minutes.
Brock Badding went 10-15 from beyond the arc, scoring a game high 30-points and setting a new Kuemper record for made 3’s in a single game. Carson Kanne was dominant while he was on the floor, finishing with 15-points and 7 assists. Tregan Beiter came up big in clutch situations, scoring 18-ponts, along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Carter Putney nearly had a double-double with 8-points and 9 rebounds.
The Knights have won 8 straight and enter the break 8-1 and ranked 5th in Class 2A. They will host Atlantic on January 5th.
