The Ar-We-Va Rockets wrap up a busy week going 2-1 with a win at home over MVAOCOU. With the win, the Rockets will head into the holiday with a winning record. The first quarter was close as Ar-We-Va would hold on to an 18-11 lead going to the second quarter. The Ar-We-Va defense picked up in the second quarter as they held MVAOCOU to three points and took a 39-22 lead at the half. The Rocket lead would grow to as much as 30 in the second half as they would go on to win 61-44.
Wyatt Ragaller and Blayne Smith each recorded 16 points to lead the Rockets. Emmett Neumann was the other Rocket player in double-figures with 13 points. Ar-We-Va rebounded the ball well. Tyson VonGlan, Ragaller, Smith, and Neumann pulled eight rebounds. With the win, Ar-We-Va improves to 5-4 on the season. The Rockets are back in action on January 5th against CAM Anita.

The Audubon Wheelers made a big comeback in the fourth quarter but fell to Atlantic at home Thursday night. Audubon looked like two different teams in both halves of the game against Atlantic. Audubon started the game on a 4-0 run, causing Atlantic to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Atlantic would go on a 9-0 run and would lead 13-9 going to the second quarter. In the first half, Audubon struggled with turnovers. Atlantic capitalized on Audubon turnovers, being able to score in transition easily. Audubon found themselves down 40-21 going into the locker rooms.
Audubon rebounded the ball better in the second half and limited the turnovers as they attempted a comeback. Audubon was down by as much as 27 in the third quarter. Going into the fourth quarter, Audubon was down 57-36. The Wheelers switched up the defense from a zone to a man-to-man in the fourth quarter. Edward Miller had ten of his team-high 22 points in the fourth quarter. Audubon was down by six at 63-57 with 2:51 left. The Wheelers were able to cut it to four points at 64-60, but Atlantic would go on to win 66-60.
Edward Miller scored a team-high 22 points. Seventeen of Miller’s 22 came in the second half. Aaron Olsen chipped in 12 points for Audubon. Austin Christensen was a big reason the Wheelers made a comeback, as he scored eight points and unofficially pulled down 12 rebounds in the second half. The loss drops Audubon to 4-6 on the season. The Wheelers are back in action on January 5th against IKM-Manning.

IKM-Manning used a 13-0 run in the 2nd quarter to build a 12-point lead, only to see LoMa respond with a 16-3 run between the 2nd quarter and early 3rd quarter, taking a 28-27 lead. The Wolves responded and went back up 5, but the Panthers outscored IKM-Manning 25-13 to close out the game. The Wolves struggled to score, minus a stretch in the 2nd quarter when Ross Kusel hit 3-3’s and the Wolves got buckets from Ben Langel and Ben Ramsey to go up 24-12. Their defense was solid but LoMa received clutch 3’s late from freshman Ashton Peszulik and a strong performance down the stretch from Evan Roden.
Ross Kusel hit a 3 to open the game, giving the Wolves an early 3-0 lead. LoMa responded with 6 straight points, the first of seven lead changes in the game. IKM-Manning battled back and Lane Sams hit a jumper, putting them up 9-8. Justin Segebart scored to extend the lead to 11-8 and the Wolves led 11-10 at the end of the 1st quarter. Three straight 3’s from Ross Kusel and two quick buckets from Ben Langel and Ben Ramsey put the Wolves up 24-12. LoMa again answered as IKM-Manning went cold and started turning the ball over. The Panthers closed within 27-20 at half.
LoMa started quickly in the 3rd quarter with 8 straight points to jump ahead 28-27. Ben Ramsey hit a jumper in the lane to give IKM-Manning the lead back at 29-28. They extended the lead to 35-30 with buckets by Lane Sams and Ross Kusel. LoMa scored 10 of the next 11-points to close the 3rd quarter with a 40-36 lead. The Wolves pulled with 1, four times in the 4th quarter. Ben Langel had back-to-back baskets, pulling them within 42-41, Lane Sams scored to make it 44-43, Ben Ramsey pulled them within 46-45 and Ben Langel answered a Panther 3 with his own 3, pulling the Wolves within 49-48. LoMa scored the final 6-points on 3’s from Ashton Peszulik.
The loss drops the Wolves to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the Western Iowa Conference. They are off until January 4th when they host Coon Rapids Bayard.

The South Central Calhoun Titans pick up a big win over OABCIG to improve their winning streak to six games going into the holiday break. The Titans started slow as they found themselves down going into the second quarter 15-11. The Titans’ defense in the second quarter was much better, as they outscored OABCIG 10-6. The game would be tied 21-21 going into the half. The third quarter was a back-and-forth, high-scoring affair. SCC outscored OABCIG 26-20 in the quarter to take a 47-41 lead going into the fourth quarter. SCC would blow the game open in the last quarter of play as they put up 22 points and held OABCIG to nine. The Titans would go on to win 69-50.
Gavin Batta scored a team-high 38 points for SCC. Cole Higgins was the team’s second-leading scorer with 11 points. Keegan Soard also chipped in 10 points for SCC. Soard pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. With the win, SCC improves to 6-3 and is currently on a six-game winning streak. The Titans are back in action on January 5th against Storm Lake St. Mary’s.
