Boyer Valley at Ar-We-Va

Ar-We-Va got off to a slow start Tuesday night in a loss to Boyer Valley. Boyer Valley started the game on a 10-0 run and extended the lead to 15-2. Ar-We-Va would trail 21-6 going to the second quarter. The Rockets were better defensively in the second quarter, holding Boyer Valley to nine points. Boyer Valley would lead 30-12 at the half. The second half was all Boyer Valley as they outscored Ar-We-Va 32-21. The Rockets would fall on the road 62-33.

Delaney Schurke scored a team-high 15 points for Ar-We-Va. Annalee Wittrock was the team’s second-leading scorer with five points. Schurke also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. With the loss, Ar-We-Va falls to 1-7 on the season. The Rockets are back in action on Thursday against MVAOCOU.

Carroll at Bondurant-Farrar

The Carroll Tigers picked up their second conference win of the season as they beat Bondurant-Farrar in a defensive battle. Both teams’ defenses started strong as the game would be tied 3-3 going into the second quarter. Carroll shot 18 percent from the field during the game and connected on four threes. Carroll would take a 16-12 lead over Bondurant-Farrar into the locker room. The Bluejays outscored Carroll in the third quarter 8-4, and the game would be tied again at 20-20 in the fourth quarter. Bondurant-Farrar played an aggressive 2-3 zone all night long. Carroll outscored the Bluejays 12-7 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 32-27 win.

Katelyn Aden scored a team-high 17 points for Carroll. Olivia Rowedder was terrific defensively, holding Bondurant-Farrar’s best player to only eight points. Carroll pulled down 32 rebounds as a team. The Tigers also anticipated passes well, coming away with 15 steals. With the win, Carroll improves to 4-4 and 2-3 in conference play. The Tigers are back in action on January 2nd against Boone.

Woodbine At Coon Rapids Bayard

Coon Rapids Bayard dropped their second straight game, falling in a matchup of ranked teams and conference leaders. Woodbine used a 12-0 run in the 1st quarter and a 10-0 run in the 3rd quarter to  hold off a Crusaders team that kept battling back. Coon Rapids Bayard trailed 14-2 early and were down 14-points in the 1st half before pulling to 26-22 at half. They cut it to 1-point early in the 3rd, then fell down 16-points at the end of the 3rd. They fought back in the 4th quarter, pulling within 7-points but Woodbine held on. Woodbine outscored the Crusaders 24-9 from beyond the arc. The Crusaders big three of Breeley Clayburg, Malia Clayburg and Anna Hart battled foul trouble most of the game. 

Breeley Clayburg tied the game at 2-2 before Woodbine took charge, using the pressure defense to speed the Crusaders up more than they wanted. Coon Rapids Bayard rushed shots and turned the ball over as Woodbine went on a 12-0 run to lead 14-2. Malia Clayburg scored to stop the run and Coon Rapids Bayard pulled within 9 but Woodbine extended the lead to 18-7 at the end of the 1st quarter. Woodbine extended the lead immediately in the 2nd quarter (23-8) but Coon Rapids Bayard chipped away. Malia Clayburg scored a free throw, then hit a bucket inside. Anna Hart had a huge run, hitting a three as she was fouled, turning it into a 4-point play. She added another three moments later, pulling the Crusaders within 23-17. Ella Heithoff had a nice rebound and putback before Breeley Clayburg scored inside and Malia Clayburg hit a free throw to pull them within 26-22 at half. 

Aubrey Hofbauer ignited the Crusaders crowd, pulling them within 26-25 to start the 3rd quarter. Woodbine responded with Charlie Pryor hitting several threes, helping them on a 10-0 run. They outscored Coon Rapids Bayard 23-11 in the 3rd quarter and led 49-33 going into the final stanza. Anna Hart scored to start the 4th quarter but Woodbine maintained the lead until late. Lydia Hofbauer made a nice drive and bucket, followed by baskets from Breeley Clayburg, Malia Clayburg, Lydia Hofbauer and Aubrey Hofbauer, pulling them within 51-44 with a few minutes remaining. Woodbine hit three free throws to go back up 10 and held the Crusaders off down the stretch. 

Malia Clayburg had 13-points and 9 rebounds, Breeley Clayburg added 12-points and 8 rebounds and Anna Hart had 10-points and 5 steals. Aubrey Hofbauer scored 6-points. 

The loss drops the Crusaders 5-2 overall and 5-2 in the Rolling Valley. They are off until January 4th at IKM-Manning.

Southeast Valley at East Sac County

The East Sac Country Raiders struggled in the first half at home Tuesday night against Southeast Valley. The Raiders struggled offensively in the first half as they were held to nine points. ESC fell down early to SE Valley as they would trail 22-5 going into the second quarter. ESC fixed some things defensively in the second quarter, holding SE Valley to only 12 points and trial 34-9 at the half. ESC came out refocused in the second half as they attempted a big comeback. SE Valley would outscore the Raiders 20-13 in the third quarter and extend their lead going into the fourth quarter. ESC put up 20 points in the final quarter, but it was not enough, as they would fall 67-42 against SE Valley.

Makenna Steiger led the way for the Raiders, scoring a team-high 18 points and connecting on four three-pointers. Kendall Quirk also scored in double-figures with 10 points. Quirk also pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds. With the loss, ESC falls to 4-3 on the season. They are back in action on Thursday against Denison-Schleswig.

The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats struggled at home against CAM Anita. The game started out really close, as the first quarter was back and forth. CAM would take a slight advantage at 15-12 going into the second quarter. CAM would open the game up in the second, scoring 22 points, and would lead 37-21 at the half. The third quarter was not much better for the Wildcats, and CAM outscored them 28-9. CAM would go on to beat Glidden-Ralston 77-37. Tiela Janssen continues her outstanding season as she recorded a team-high 17 points. Kassidy Wenck chipped in 11 for the Wildcats. With the loss, Glidden-Ralston drops to 4-5 and 3-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Wildcats are back in action on January 5th against Coon-Rapids Bayard.

IKM-Manning picks up a big win Tuesday night against Missouri Valley in blowout fashion. The Wolves were excellent offensively, with two players in double figures, led by Anna Stangl, who scored 24 points. The Wolves would lead 33-20 going into the locker rooms. In the second half, IKM-Manning picked up their defense as they outscored Missouri Valley 30-13. Taylor Beckendorf was the second Wolves in double figures with 12 points. Mckenna Benton also chipped in eight points for IKM-Manning. With the win, the Wolves improved to 1-8 on the season. IKM-Manning is back in action on Thursday against Logan-Magnolia.

On Tuesday night, the Kuemper Knights dropped a home game to a good St. Albert team. St. Albert jumped out to an early lead and led the entire game. Kuemper fell down 17-8 going into the second quarter. The second quarter was the only quarter Kuemper outscored St. Albert. The Knights would trail 30-22 at the half. The third quarter was close, but St. Albert would extend their lead by outscoring Kuemper 13-11. St. Albert would go on to win 59-45 against Kuemper.

Elsa Tiefenthaler was the leading scorer for the Knights, scoring 15 points. Lauren Boell was the only other Knight in double figures with 11 points. Boell also led the Knights in rebounds with seven. Kuemper struggled to shoot the ball Tuesday. The Knights made seven threes but took 21 shots from the outside. As a team, Kuemper shot 34 percent from the field. With the loss, Kuemper falls to 3-4 on the season. The Knights are back in action against Nodaway Valley on Thursday.

The Paton Churdan Rockets traveled to Exira-EHK Tuesday night and lost to an excellent Spartan team. Alivya Smith was the Rockets’ leading scorer with 11 points Tuesday. Paton Churdan trailed at the half 32-10 and went on to lose 59-21. Kadence Sporrer, who is from Audubon, scored 12 points for the Spartans. With the loss, the Rockets fell to 0-8 and 0-7 in the Rolling Valley Conference. Paton Churdan is back in action on January 4th against West Bend Mallard.

The South Central Calhoun Titans hanged with a good MVAOCOU team through most of the third quarter in a much closer game than the final score indicated. Runs were the name of the game, and MVAOCOU went on runs at the end of each quarter to extend their lead. South Central Calhoun was down 23-13 at the end of the first quarter. MVAOCOU extended their lead going into the locker room 47-29. SCC could cut into the lead and trail by eight in the third quarter. A 12-0 run by MVAOCOU to end the quarter saw them lead going to the fourth. SCC would be outscored in the fourth quarter 14-5 and go on to lose 86-50.

Macie Dorman was the leading scorer for the Titans with 14 points. Brenna McAlister chipped in 12 points for SCC. Bre Patterson recorded nine points Tuesday night. SCC knocked down six threes for the arc and shot 34 percent for the field. With the loss, SCC falls to 2-7 on the season. The Titans are back in action on Thursday against OABCIG.
