Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Glidden Ralston Tops Ar-We-Va in Girls Basketball on Monday

Glidden Ralston sprinted out to a 9-0 lead, using pressure defense to speed up the Rockets, allowing them to create turnovers but also entice the Rockets to take quick shots. The Wildcats transitioned from offense to defense well, building a 20-3 lead midway through the 1st quarter. Ar-We-Va settled in and battled back the final few minutes of the 1st quarter and closed to within 6 early in the 3rd quarter. The Wildcats got great play from their bench and were able to reestablish control of the game, though they were battling foul trouble. They led 42-34 heading to the 4th quarter before extending the lead to 22-points late in the 4th quarter. Ar-We-Va did some nice things with their defense, finishing with 30 steals but didn’t shot the ball well.

Brileigh Bock hit a corner three to start the game as the Wildcats scored nine straight points with baskets by Tiela Janssen and Elizabeth Lloyd. Ar-We-Va answered with a basket and free throw from Emma Leiting but Glidden Ralston stretched the lead to 20-3 with a 11-0 run with Kassidy Wenck, Janssen and Bock hitting buckets. Ar-We-Va began attacking against the press and Azaya Martinez came off the bench and provided a spark for the Rockets. Martinez and Gabby Hundling defensive pressure helped the Rockets pull within 23-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. A three from Amber Ragaller to start the 2nd quarter pulled Ar-We-Va to 11 but Tiela Janssen responded with a three and Glidden Ralston led 26-12. Azaya Martinez and Emma Leiting scored six straight and the Rockets were within eight. Hundling made it a seven-point game late in the half but Glidden Ralston extended it to 32-23 at half.

Delaney Schurke hit a three for Ar-We-Va, pulling them within 32-26. That is as close as they got as Ar-We-Va had a 5-0 run paced by Jaelyn Subbert and Allison Snyder, who had a big 2nd half. The Wildcats stretched the lead to 42-34 heading into the 4th quarter. Kassidy Wenck, who battled foul trouble most of the game, but came out in the 4th and helped the Wildcats stretch the lead and pull away. Glidden Ralston lead 60-38 late in the game on a free throw by Tiela Janssen.

Tiela Janssen paced the Wildcats with 24-points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 steals. Kassidy Wenck finished with 16-points and 9 rebounds. Allison Snyder added 7-points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals. Amelia Garrett pulled down 8 rebounds.

Emma Leiting had a team high 13-points and 5 assists for Ar-We-Va. Gabby Hundling added a strong all-around game with 10-points, 7 rebounds and 8 steals. Amber Ragaller had 6 steals and Azaya Martinez added 5-points and 5 steals.

Glidden Ralston moved to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference. Ar-We-Va fell to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the Rolling Valley. The Wildcats are host to CAM on Tuesday and Ar-We-Va entertains Boyer Valley.
