Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Area Boys Teams go 3-5 on Friday

Boys Basketball Results Friday, December 15th

Carroll couldn’t rebound from a slow 1st half as they suffered their first loss of the season. The Tigers struggled on offense, falling behind 19-9 at the end of the 1st quarter and trailed 36-16 at half. Turnovers leading to easy layups hurt the Tigers early in the game along with the Bombers knocking down a few early 3’s. For the first time this season the Tigers weren’t able to respond as they struggled to cut into the early deficit. Carroll played better in the 2nd half but weren’t able to climb back, dropping to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Raccoon River Conference. 

Evan Hammer had a team high 19-points, adding 8 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Caden Lengeling added 10-points and Payton Wardell had 5 rebounds and Will Schultes added 8-points. 

The Tigers go to Bondurant Farrar on KIKD 106.7 on Tuesday.

Glidden Ralston At Boyer Valley

Glidden Ralston went into a full-court press to start the 4th quarter, down by 12 and nearly rallied back to tie before falling on a cold shooting night in Boyer Valley. The Wildcats hit a layup with under 0:03 remaining to pull within three but weren’t able to gain another chance to tie the game. They struggled getting into a rhythm in the first-three quarters but the press ignited them in the final stanza. Glidden Ralston scored in single digits in each of the first-three quarters. 

Jonathan Bergmeier paced the offense with 20-points with Colby Wallace and Charles Schon both having 6-points. 

The loss drops Glidden Ralston to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They will host Ar-We-Va on Monday on 93.7 KKRL.

Audubon At Underwood

Audubon had three players score in double figures but they struggled to stop a very talented and undefeated Underwood team, falling on the road 82-46. The Wheelers trailed 23-8 at the end of the 1st quarter, then settled in on the offensive end, scoring 17 and 13-points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters respectively. The Eagles offense didn’t slow down during the game, scoring at least 16-points in all four quarters. 

Edward Miller had a team high 16-points in the loss for the Wheelers with Aaron Olsen adding 12-points and Austin Christensen adding 10-points. 

The loss dropped the Wheelers to 3-5 overall and 0-4 in the Western Iowa Conference. They host LoMa on Tuesday.

For the second time in a little over a week Coon Rapids Bayard offense clicked at a high level, scoring over 80-points in a game with 49-points coming by halftime. Cade Behrens was a big reason in both games, setting a school record last Thursday with 9 made 3’s against Boyer Valley. He broke that record on Friday against East Union, knocking down 11 of 16 shots from beyond the arc. Behrens finished with a game high 37-points to lead the offensive onslaught that saw them shoot 18-31 from three and 32-58 from the field. They jumped up quickly on the Eagles, leading 26-8 at the end of the 1st quarter and 49-24 at half.  Ball movement shined for the Crusaders, dishing out 18 assists on their 32 made baskets while only turning the ball over 8 times. 

Cade Behrens led the Crusaders with 37-points on 11-16 shooting from beyond the arc. Cal Heydon added 16-points with 7 rebounds, Parker Hays finished with 5 assists and Bryce Lewis had 9-points off the bench. 

The Crusaders are 8-0 on the season  and 6-0 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They host Woodbine next Tuesday on 93.7 KKRL.

Woodbine came out of the gates quickly, shooting the ball very well, building a 10-point lead at the end of the 1st quarter, then extending it to 41-24 at half. The Tigers didn’t cool off in the 3rd, taking a 22-point lead midway through the 4th quarter. The Rockets were able to get some stops and began attacking the basket and hit a few 3’s, cutting the deficit to 6-points with 2:00 left before the Tigers edged away down the stretch. 

Blayne Smith had a team high 19-points with 4 assists, Wyatt Ragaller added 14-points and 3 steals. Emmett Neumann finished with 10-points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks while Wade Ragaller had 9-points and 7 rebounds. 

The Rockets fell to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference heading into a game at Glidden Ralston on Monday on 93.7 KKRL.

East Sac was able to pound the ball inside early but GTRA battled hard on the glass, getting enough offensive rebounds to hang tight as the game was tied at 17 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Raiders opened things up in the 2nd quarter, getting into the lane on the dribble drive and knocking down a few shots from beyond the arc. The defense picked up its intensity and rebounded better, holding the Titans to 9-points, putting the Raiders up 33-26 at half. 

The 2nd half started with East Sac able to get the ball inside to Ryan Clair and Luke Wright and the defense limited GTRA second chance opportunities, allowing them to stretch the lead to 14-points heading into the 4th quarter. The Raiders went up by as many as 16-points in the final stanza but GTRA stayed in striking distance with a few 3’s. Ryan Clair had a big dunk, igniting the Raiders and their crowd, helping them keep the Titans at distance. 

The Raiders struggled from the outside, hitting only 4-14 from three, but they were 28-54 from the field overall. The defense was solid but allowed GTRA a lot of second chance opportunities. 

The win improves East Sac to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They host SE Valley on Tuesday.

South Central Calhoun shot the ball well, especially in the second half, as they knocked off Emmetsburg at home Friday night. The first quarter started back and forth, with both teams taking the lead at various points. SCC took an 8-6 lead in the first quarter, but Emmetsburg would close the quarter out on an 11-2 run to take a 15-10 lead going into the second quarter. SCC made adjustments defensively in the second quarter as they held Emmetsburg to six points. Emmetsburg held a 21-17 lead late in the second quarter before SCC closed out on a 4-0 run. As time expired, Gavin Batta made a layup to send the game to a 21-21 tie at the half. 

Coming out of the locker room, both teams look sloppy with the basketball. SCC called a quick timeout after Emmetsburg took a 23-21 lead. After the timeout, the Titans could not miss from the three-point line. SCC scored 15 points in the quarter, all coming from behind the arc. The Titans would take a 36-35 lead going to the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, SCC would grow their lead to as much as nine, but as the game went on, Emmetsburg chipped away. Gavin Batta made a critical free throw late to put SCC up by four, and they would go on to win 52-48.

The Titans were led in scoring by Gavin Batta, who scored 21 points. Cole Higgins was the team’s second-leading scorer with 14, and Andrew Anderson also recorded double figures with 13 points. As a team, SCC hit 11 threes, with eight of them coming in the second half. 

The win improves the Titans to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Twin Lakes Conference. SCC is back in action on Tuesday against MVAOCOU.

The Wolves struggled on the road against a good Treynor team. Treynor jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter at 23-7. IKM-Manning played better in the second quarter and cut it to a twelve-point lead at the half, 32-20. The third quarter started back and forth, but Treynor ended on a 10-0 run to take a 50-27 lead going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Treynor opened on a 6-2 run and would never look back as they beat IKM-Manning 66-35.

Ross Kusel scored a team-high nine points for the Wolves. Miles Nuzback had one of his better performances of the season, scoring seven points and pulling down eight rebounds. Ben Ramsey chipped in six points for IKM-Manning. The loss drops the Wolves to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. IKM-Manning is back in action on Tuesday against Missouri Valley.
