The Audubon Wheelers got back in the win column with a blowout win at home over Riverside Tuesday night. The game was tied once in the first quarter, and Riverside never held the lead. Audubon switched up their defense going into the game against Riverside, and it worked out. Riverside struggled to shoot in the first half, as they only managed nine points in the first quarter against Audubon. The Wheelers would lead 12-9 going to the second quarter and would lead by as much as ten before taking a 23-16 lead at the half.

The Wheelers did not hit a three in the first half while they focused on scoring in the paint. Riverside started the second half on a hot start as they cut the Audubon lead to 23-21, forcing the Wheelers to use a timeout. After the timeout, Mason Steckler hit back-to-back threes to spark the Audubon offense. The Wheelers scored 22 points in the quarter and extended their lead to the fourth at 45-30. The scoring did not stop in the fourth, as Audubon would go on to beat Riverside 64-49.

Edward Miller was fantastic on both ends of the floor for the Wheelers. He recorded a team-high 22 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and blocked three shots. Aaron Olsen added 15 for Audubon. Austin Christensen was big in the second half as he chipped in nine points and pulled down ten rebounds. With the win, Audubon improves to 2-4 on and 2-3 in conference play. The Wheelers are back in action on Thursday at Boyer Valley.

Carroll at Winterset

The Carroll Tigers stay undefeated on the season with a hard-fought, ugly win on the road against Winterset Tuesday night. Carroll jumped out to a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers struggled with Wintersets’ 2-3 zone defense, turning the ball over in the first half at a high clip. Carroll would hold on to a 22-16 lead going into the half. Winterset came out of the locker room focused as they went on a 16-7 run to take the lead in the third quarter. Carroll would trail by three with three minutes left in the third. Carroll would outscore Winterset in the fourth quarter 12-6 to escape with a close 50-42 win.

Evan Hammer recorded another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Payton Wardell recorded 13 points; 11 came in the second half. Stone Sibenaller also chipped in nine points for the Tigers. Mac Collison recorded a team-high five assists. With the win, Carroll moves to 5-0 and 3-0 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll is back in action on Friday at Ballard.

Coon Rapids-Bayard at Exira-EHK

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders move to 7-0 with a close win on the road against Exira-EHK. The CRB defense has been excellent at the start of the season. The Crusaders jumped out to a two-point lead at 13-11 going into the second quarter. The Crusaders extended their lead going into the locker room at 28-24. Exira-EHK cut into the CRB lead by outscoring the Crusaders 15-14 to make the score 42-39 going to the fourth quarter. The CRB defense stepped up in the fourth quarter as they would go on to win 59-52.

Cade Behrens and Cal Heydon combined for 44 points for the Crusaders. Heydon was the team’s leading scorer with 32 points. Behrens was the second-leading scorer with 12 points. Heydon also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. The Crusaders shot the basketball well for a field, hitting 41 percent of their threes. With the win, CRB improves to 7-0 and 6-0 in conference play. The Crusaders are back in action against East Union on Friday.

East Sac County vs Pocahontas Area

The East Sac County Raiders continue their excellent start to the season with a big win over Pocahontas Area Tuesday night. The Raiders struggled in the first quarter but still held a 13-10 lead going to the second quarter. The Raider’s offense exploded for 24 points in the second quarter. ESC would take a 37-15 lead going into the half. The Raiders had a balanced scoring attack in the second half and played great basketball to come away with a 75-41 win over Pocahontas Area.

Sam Julin was the Raiders’ leading scorer with 18 points, Julin also hit four threes. Luke Wright also recorded 16 points for ESC. Caleb Eichorn played an excellent game for the Raiders, scoring 13 points, pulling down eight rebounds, and recording six assists. Off the bench, Caiden Auen recorded 12 points, hitting four threes. With the win, ESC improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Raiders are back in action on Friday against GTRA.

Woodbine At Glidden Ralston

Glidden Ralston had several chances in the 2nd half to pull within striking distance, down 8 but a tough night shooting hindered their attempts at rallying. Woodbine answered each run by the Wildcats, getting buckets from Carter Gruver when they needed a basket. Jonathan Bergmeier and Emmett Snyder took over for Glidden Ralston in the 2nd half, combining to score 24 of the teams 31-points. 

Jonathan Bergmeier hit a three early to give Glidden Ralston a 3-2 lead as they hung tough early, Charles Schon extended it to 5-2 but Woodbine went on a 6-0 run to get their lead for good. Glidden Ralston trailed 11-7 before Woodbine opened things up with a 15-3 run and led 30-17 at the end of the 1st half. 

The Wildcats came out of halftime with more energy, getting buckets from Emmett Snyder and Colby Wallace. Woodbine got on a roll in the middle of the 3rd, extending the lead to 39-24 but Glidden Ralston closed the quarter on a 7-0 run with Jonathan Bergmeier scoring all 7-points to trail 39-31 heading to the 4th. They had a few possessions with a chance to make the game closer but weren’t able to score and Woodbine were able to extend the lead back to 11-points. An Emmett Snyder run cut the deficit to 9-points but the Wildcats were not able to get closer. 

Emmett Snyder paced the offense with 19-points with 5 rebounds. Jonathan Bergmeier added 15-points with Colby Wallace having 6-points and 5 rebounds and Charles Schon adding 8-points and 8 rebounds. 

The Wildcats fall to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Rolling Valley. They  head to Boyer Valley on Friday.

Kuemper extended their winning streak with a win on the road against Atlantic. The Knights had four players score in double figures. Kuemper led for the whole game. Kuemper jumped out to a 20-16 lead after the first quarter. Atlantic kept the game close in the second quarter, but Kuemper would lead going into the half at 39-36. Kuemper came out of the locker room playing excellent defense as they held Atlantic to three points in the quarter. The Knights took a 50-39 lead going into the fourth quarter. Kuemper would outscore Atlantic 22-15 in the fourth and go on to win 72-54.

Michael Kasperbauer scored a team-high 21 points for the Knights. Carson Kanne and Tregan Beiter each recorded 14 points. Brock Badding was the fourth Knight in double figures with 10 points off the bench. DJ Vonnahme pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Kuemper forced 15 turnovers as a team. With the win, Kuemper improves to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Hawkeye Ten. The Knights are back in action against Greene County on Saturday.

Trevon Keely had another big game for Paton Churdan, scoring 27-points in a 19-point loss to West Harrison at home. The Rockets offense had a solid night with two players in double figures and two more with 6-points each. West Harrison had a strong night shooting, hitting 9-18 from three-point range and 50.8% from the field. They had four players in double figures. Cayden Stream poured in 12-points and Phoenix Hartman and Kinnick Steimel both had 6-points. 

The loss drops the Rockets to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They head to CAM Anita on Friday.
