The Kuemper Knights picked up a big non-conference win at home over Van Meter on Saturday. The Knights were balanced on offense, with six players scoring eight or more points. In the first quarter, Van Meter forced Kuemper to drive to the basket and not shoot the three. The Knights were able to get a couple of baskets at the bucket, and Van Meter was forced to defend the paint more. At the end of the first quarter, Van Meter would hold onto a 19-17 lead. Kuemper knocked down some shots from behind the three-point line in the second quarter. Brock Badding came into the game and provided a massive spark for Kuemper in the second quarter off the bench. The Knights outscored Van Meter in the quarter and took a 39-34 lead going into the locker room. 

Kuemper’s defense in the third quarter was excellent, as they held Van Meter scoreless for most of the quarter. The Knights would extend their lead to 15 points in the third quarter. Kuemper would take a 55-42 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Knights struggled in the fourth quarter as Van Meter scored 11-0. Van Meter cut the Kuemper lead to one multiple times in the fourth quarter. Kuemper came up with a big defensive stop in the final seconds due to a DJ Vonnahme block as time expired. Kuemper would go on to beat Van Meter in a close one, 62-61.

The Knights were led in scoring by Tregan Beiter, who recorded 15 points. Carson Kanne was the team’s second-leading scorer with 11 points. DJ Vonnahme chipped in ten for Kuemper. The Knights improved to 4-1 on the year. They are back in action on Tuesday against Atlantic.

Caden Lengeling put Carroll up for good in the 2nd quarter as Carroll responded to Storm Lake  hitting 5-3’s in the 1st quarter and building a 13-7 lead. The Tigers closed the 1st quarter on a 4-0 run, pulling within 16-15. Evan Hammer put them up 17-16 to start the 2nd quarter, but Storm Lake answered as the teams traded leads  over the next four baskets. A Caden Lengeling bucket gave Carroll at 21-20 lead  and Carroll edged ahead 33-29 at half. The game had five lead changes in the 1st half along with three ties. The last tie was at 27, before Evan Hammer put Carroll up 29-27.

Carroll cranked up the defense to open the 2nd half, leading to baskets from Payton Wardell, Caden Lengeling and Mac Collison. Carroll went up 39-29. Storm Lake made a couple runs at Carroll in the 2nd half, pulling within 48-43 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Caden Lengeling scored to start the 4th for Carroll, extending the lead to 51-43, then he hit another three to make it a 54-44 lead. Leneling ended his stretch of 3’s with his third, giving Carroll a 57-46 lead. A Stone Sibenaller three put Carroll up 62-48 in the 4th quarter. Storm Lake kept making small runs, pulling within 8 but Carroll had an answer each time. The Tigers sealed the game with Stone Sibenaller hitting free throws down the stretch.

Evan Hammer continues his incredible season with a double-double, scoring 23-points while pulling down 10 rebounds. He added 5 blocks. Caden Lengeling was huge as the Tigers pulled away, finishing with 17-points and 3 assists. Payton Wardell had 10-points and 6 rebounds. Stone Sibenaller gave Carroll a fourth player in double figures with 14-points. Ryan North was strong off the bench with 8 rebounds.

The Tigers moved to 4-0 on the season and will head to Winterset on Tuesday.

The Wolves started well for a second straight night, building a 17-4 lead in the 1st quarter before the Spartans answered with a 13-5 run. IKM-Manning staved off the run and led 25-19 at the end of the 1st quarter. Both teams played well in the 2nd quarter but neither offense was able to get on a run with the teams trading baskets most of the quarter. The Wolves held a 41-35 lead at half. The game turned in the 3rd as IKM-Manning, which shot the ball well, hitting 16-30 from three-point range stretched the lead. The Wolves went up 54-39 and 61-44 in the 3rd. They did a nice job taking care of the ball, turning it over 10 times in the game while dishing out 14 assists. IKM-Manning shot 50.9% from the field for the game. The momentum gained in the 3rd kept in the Wolves favor in the 4th as they built their biggest lead of the game at 77-59 on their way to a 84-67 win.

Ben Ramsey was huge for the Wolves with 29-points along with 6 assists. Lane Sams was strong again with 15-points and 10 rebounds. Ross Kusel added 16-points and 8 rebounds, Justin Segebart had 12-points, hitting 4-5 from 3-point range.  He added 3 assists. Miles Nuzback added 7-points.

IKM-Manning has won 2 straight to improve to 2-4  overall. They are off until Friday when they head to Treynor.
