The tough start continued for South Central Calhoun on Monday as they struggled from the floor and struggled defensively in the 1st half, falling to 0-3 on the season. The Titans lost 3 starters from last season and continue to build experience and gain a comfort level with their new lineups. They hit 26.2% from the field, going 2-21 from 3. Defensively they allowed 20-points in the 1st quarter and 37-points in the 1st half. They trailed 37-25 at half before playing better in the 3rd quarter on both sides of the ball. Manson NW Webster was able to pull away in the 4th quarter. South Central Calhoun has been good at the rim on defense, finishing the game with 11 blocks. They also had 8 assists to only 9 turnovers.
Bryce Berquist paced a balanced offense with 10-points with Cole Higgins scoring 9, Gavin Batta 8 and Keegan Soard and Andrew Anderson both having 6-points. Berquist and Soard both had 9 rebounds with Batta ending with 8 rebounds. Keegan Soard led the team with 3 steals and Bryce Berquist had a team high 5 blocks.
The Titans will look to pick up their first win of the season at home on Tuesday against Webster City. They head to GTRA on Friday.

Glidden Ralston couldn’t recover from a slow start in the 1st quarter as the speed and length of Woodward Granger took a while to adjust to. The Hawks built a 14-2 lead, thanks to seven turnovers in the 1st half for the Wildcats. Glidden Ralston fought back to 14-6 by the end of the 1st quarter. The Wildcats struggled to hit open looks in the 1st quarter, but shot it better in the 2nd quarter. They trailed 25-14 at the half but looked more comfortable with what the Hawks were doing. The defense and offense clicked in the 3rd quarter as Glidden Ralston pulled within 5 several times but couldn’t get a stop or bucket and Woodward Granger hit some tough shots to lead by 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter. They trimmed the deficit to 5 again in the 4th quarter but never got any closer.
Jonathan Bergmeier had a team high 12-points with Charles Schon adding 9-points, Emmett Snyder had 8-points and Colby Wallace scored 6-points. Wallace, Snyder and Schon all had 4 rebounds.
Glidden Ralston falls to 2-1 overall and will host Exira-EHK on Tuesday, then head to Greene County on Friday.
