Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Area Girls Basketball Teams go 3-5 on Friday

Girls Basketball Results Friday, December 1st 

Gilbert At Carroll

Carroll suffered their first loss of the season as Gilbert rallied from down 14 in the 3rd to quarter to hold on for a 49-48 win. The Tigers had a chance to win late with a couple shots in the closing seconds but weren’t able to get them to fall. Katelyn Aden tied the game late with a 3-pointer but Gilbert got a free throw to take the lead by 1.

Carroll played extremely well early, building a 12-6 lead at the end of the 1st quarter as the defense was strong to begin the game. Both offenses settled in a little better in the 2nd quarter with Carroll holding a 25-18 lead at half.

The 2nd half started well for Carroll, jumping up by 14-points. Gilbert adjusted to a zone and the change in defense took Carroll out of rhythm. Carroll turnovers helped Gilbert rally with an 18-point 4th quarter.

Katelyn Aden had a team high 15-points for Carroll to go with 3 steals. Chloe Kock added 12-points with 5 rebounds. Olivia Rowedder had 9-points, Ali Kock adds 7-points and 3 assists and Sophia Tidgren added 3 steals.

The loss is the first of the year for Carroll as they drop to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers host North Polk on Tuesday on 93.7 KKRL.

Coon Rapids Bayard At CAM Anita

Coon Rapids Bayard earned their first win over CAM Anita since 2016 in a matchup of two ranked teams. The game featured two of the favorites in the Rolling Valley Conference but ended with the Crusaders looking like a team that could have a special season. The Crusaders are a very strong defensive team and showed it early against the Cougars, holding them to 2-points in the 1st quarter while building a 15-2 lead. They didn’t let up in the 2nd quarter, nearly pitching a shutout. They offense cooled for Coon Rapids Bayard in quarter two but they led 21-4 at half.

The defense set up the offense with 24 steals with Anna Hart leading the way with 8-steals and Breeley Clayburg adding 7-steals. They offense was balanced in the 2nd half, helping Coon Rapids Bayard score 22-points and answer a 13-point 3rd quarter by the Cougars. Coon Rapids Bayard scored 12 in the 3rd and 10 more in the final stanza.

Anna Hart and Malia Clayburg both finished in double figures with Hart pacing the team with 15-points and Malia with 12-points. Clayburg added 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Breeley Clayburg added 8-points and 5 rebounds. Lydia Hofbauer had another strong game with 6-points and 7 rebounds.

The Crusaders are 2-0 overall and in the Rolling Valley Conference. They travel to West Harrison on Tuesday.

East Sac took the lead in the 1st quarter and held the lead for the rest of the game earning a win over South Central Calhoun in a matchup of two local teams on KIKD 106.7. The Raiders improved to 2-1 overall, winning two straight since the holiday break. The Titans slip to 1-2 on the season, dropping their second road game to start the season. The game was tight early with the Titans taking an early lead but East Sac edging in front at the end of the 1st quarter. The game remained tight at half with East Sac leading 24-20. A Raider run in the 3rd quarter opened their lead as the Titans went cold from the field, scoring 2-points. The Titans tried to rally in the 4th but ran out of time as the Raiders held on to win 44-36.

Addisen Ehler led the Raiders with 13-points along with a team high 10 rebounds. Sarah Bontrager had 11 points and 4 steals while McKenna Steiger had 9-points and 5 rebounds. Chloe Bieret added 8-points and Kendall Quirk finished with 8 rebounds.

No stats were reported for South Central Calhoun.

The Raiders host OA-BCIG on Thursday on KIKD 106.7. South Central Calhoun heads home to host Manson NW Webster on Monday.

Panton-Churdan At Glidden-Ralston

The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats move to 2-0 on the season with a conference win over Paton-Churdan Friday night. The Wildcats led the whole game, and it was never close. Glidden-Ralston jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and led 23-0 going to the second. Tiela Janssen was fantastic in the first half for the Wildcats. Janssen scored 20 in the first half and hit three threes. Paton-Churdan finished the second quarter on a 13-4 run and kept the momentum going into the second half. Glidden-Ralston would take a 42-13 lead into the locker room.

Despite only scoring seven points in the second half, Paton-Churdan’s best half was the second. Defensively, they made Glidden-Ralston turn the ball over multiple times. Kassidy Wenck and Allison Snyder were great in the second half. Glidden-Ralston would go on to score the Rockets 13-0 in the third quarter and take a 57-13 lead going to the fourth quarter. Paton-Churdan outscored the Wildcats 7-2 but would fall 57-20.

Tiela Janssen was the leading scorer for the Wildcats, as she had 20 points, all coming in the first half. Allison Snyder and Kassidy Wenck each had 11 points for Glidden-Ralston. Brileigh Bock also recorded eight points for the Wildcats. Grace Cullum was the leading scorer for the Rockets, as she recorded six points. Ava Minnehan scored five for Paton-Churdan.

With the loss, the Rockets fell to 0-2 to start the season. Glidden-Ralston moves to 2-0. The Wildcats will be back in action on Monday at home against Woodward-Granger. The Rocket’s next game is Tuesday against Ar-We-Va.

It was a tough shooting night for IKM-Manning on Friday as they fall to 0-3 on the season. The Wolves shot 16.3% from the field, going 2-13 from three point range. The struggles were compounded with 38 turnovers, limiting their opportunities to score. The Wolves trailed 13-5 at the end of the 1st quarter but scored only two points in the 2nd quarter, falling behind 30-7 at half.

Anna Stangl and Taylor Beckendorf led the Wolves in scoring for a second straight night with each finishing with 6-points. Abby Nielheisel, Beckendorf, Ali McGinn and Oriah Meiners all grabbed 4 rebounds. McGinn had a team high 4 steals.

The Wolves fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wolves host AHSTW on Tuesday.

Ar-We-Va showed good growth in their second game of the season, especially on the offense end. They scored in double figures in three of the four quarters and scored 8-points in the other quarter. The defense struggled early, allowing 26-points in the 1st quarter but settled in better the rest of the game. West Harrison led 26-12 after the 1st quarter but only scored 36-points over the final three quarters.

Delaney Schurke had a strong game shooting the ball, finishing with a team high 23-points to go with 7 rebounds. Amber Ragaller did a nice job distributing the ball, ending the game with 9 assists along with 3 steals. Makayla Schrad went to work on the boards, grabbing a team high 10 rebounds.

Ar-We-Va falls to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They head to Paton Churdan on Tuesday.
