Ar-We-Va at Coon Rapids-Bayard

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders picked up a big blowout win at home over Ar-We-Va Tuesday night. CRB came into the game ranked 13th in the preseason 1A girls rankings. The Crusaders jumped out early, causing the Rockets to turn the ball over, and it was quickly a 20-0 lead for CRB. Ar-We-Va would score seven points late in the first quarter but would trail CRB 22-7 going to the second quarter. The second quarter was much like the first all CRB. The Crusaders would outscore the Rockets 16-0 in the quarter and take a 38-7 at half. The second half was a lot closer than the first. CRB would take a 51-11 lead going to the fourth and would go on to win 60-14.

The Crusaders were lead in scoring on the night from Malia Clayburg with 18 points. Breeley Claburg was the second-leading scorer with 12. Lydia Hofbauer also reached double-figure scoring as she had 11 points. Breeley led the Crusaders in rebounds with seven. Anna Hart jumped the passing lanes well as she finished with six steals. For the Rockets, they were led by Delaney Schurke, who had seven points. Amber Ragaller added five points for the Rockets as well.

Ar-We-Va starts the season 0-1 but will be back at home against West Harrison on Friday. CRB improves to 1-0 and will also be back in action on Friday against CAM.

Katelyn Aden hit a pair of free throws late to send the game to overtime, then sealed the win for Carroll with a free throw in the closing seconds of overtime. Carroll moves to 2-0 on the season as Kuemper sees a late lead slip away and falls in their season opener. 

Carroll grabbed an early lead with Ali Kock hitting a three to open the scoring. Both teams struggled to score early with both defenses coming out aggressive. The Tigers went up 9-4 on three straight free throws from Carly Menken but Kuemper chipped away. Elsa Tiefenthaler and Karsyn Overmohle combined for five straight points, tying the game at 9 on a bucket by Tiefenthaler. Carly Menken put Carroll up 11-9 but Tiefenthaler hit a pair of free throws, tying the game at 11 at the end of the 1st quarter. Frannie Glynn gave Kuemper their first lead with a bucket and free throw. The 1st half was tied twice and had a pair of lead changes. Elsa Tiefenthaler gave Kuemper their largest lead of the 1st half 17-13 but Carroll rallied with Katelyn Aden scoring three straight and Olivia Rowedder putting the Tigers up 18-17. Mollie Feld and Rowedder kept the Tigers in the lead, extending it to 21-17. A three from Sophia Tidgren and a bucket by Ali Kock and Carroll was up 26-20. Frannie Glynn closed out the half with a three-point play and Carroll led 26-23 at half. Carroll controlled the glass, out rebounding the Knights 17-11 but the Knights had 10 steals to keep them in striking distance. 

Olivia Rowedder had a great night on the glass and helped Carroll extend their lead in the 3rd quarter to 30-23. Elsa Tiefenthaler kept Kuemper close as her and Rowedder traded baskets with a Tiefenthaler three, cutting the lead to 32-28. Charlotte Hackfort scored seven straight for Kuemper, helping them grab a 35-34 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Elsa Tiefenthaler made it a 4-point lead with a three to start the 4th quarter. Katelyn Aden answered with a three, then Ali Kock put Carroll up briefly at 39-38. Lauren Boell scored back-to-back baskets for Kuemper, putting them up 42-39. The Knights held the lead until Katelyn Aden tied the game at 45 with a pair of free throws with 15.5 seconds left in regulation, then made a steal to send the game to overtime. 

Frannie Glynn hit a free throw to start the overtime, followed by a free throw from Ali Kock, tying the game at 46. A free throw by Olivia Rowedder put Carroll up 48-46, then hit a bucket, making it 50-46. Elsa Tiefenthaler pulled Carroll within 50-47 but Katelyn Aden sealed it with a free throw and Carroll held on to win 51-47. 

Olivia Rowedder had a double-double for Carroll with 16-points and 11 rebounds. Katelyn Aden added 11-points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Ali Kock had 8-points with Chloe Kock fouled out with 6 rebounds. Carly Menken added 6-points and 5 rebounds. 

Elsa Tiefenthaler paced the Knights with 19-points and 6 rebounds. Frannie Glynn added 10-points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Charlotte Hackfort scored 7-points, Karsyn Overmohle had 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Lauren Boell had 4 steals as did Kaylie Simons.

Carroll is 2-0 and  hosts Gilbert on Friday while Kuemper opens the season at 0-1 and will head to Denison Schleswig on Saturday.

The East Sac County Raiders pick up a big non-conference road win Tuesday night at Woodbury Central. The Raiders led the whole first half, taking a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Raiders would take a 32-31 lead going into the locker room. ESC fell down going into the fourth quarter after being outscored 9-5 in the third quarter. A big fourth quarter from the Raiders proved to be the deciding factor as they would him some big threes down the stretch to win 56-50 over Woodbury Central.

ESC had three girls score in double figures. They were led by Sarah Bontrager, who finished with 18 points. Makenna Steiger chipped in 12 points for the Raiders. Jen Aschinger was the third player with double figures as she finished with ten points for ESC. Kendall Quirk and Addisen Ehler each recorded eight rebounds for the Raiders. Aschinger recorded a team-high six assists.

The win improves the Raiders record to 1-1. ESC is back in action on Friday at home against South Central Calhoun.

The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats picked up a win on the road to open the season against a Rolling Valley Conference team in West Harrison. The Wildcats had two girls in double figures that combined for 29 of the 41 points. Tiela Janssen recorded 12 points for Glidden-Ralston. Kassidy Wenck was the leading scorer for the Wildcats as the sophomore scored 17 points. The win improves Glidden-Ralstons record to 1-0 on the season. The Wildcats are back in action on Friday against Paton-Churdan on 93.7 KKRL.

The IKM-Manning Wolves started their season with a home loss against Underwood. The Wolves got off to a hot start as they would take a 16-9 lead going to the second quarter. Underwood would come storming back in the second quarter, and the score would be tied up at 23-23 at the half. The Wolves would struggle to score in the second half as they would go on to lose by double digits at 49-36.

Abby Neiheisel was the leading scorer for the Wolves at eight points. It was a balanced scoring attack for IKM-Manning. Anna Stangl and Emma Reginato each recorded seven points for the wolves as well. With the loss, IKM-Manning starts the season 0-1. They are back in action on Thursday at home against Panorama.

The Paton Churdan Rockets start the season 0-1 after a loss on the road to Boyer Valley. It was all Boyer Valley Tuesday night as they would jump out to a 39-6 lead at the half. The second half was much like the first, as Boyer Valley outscored the Rockets 20-7 and went on to win 59-13. Grace Cullum led the Rockets in scoring with five points. Kaliyah Minnehan and Maggie Reed each chipped in three points for Paton Churdan. With the loss, the Rockets opened the season 0-1. They are back in action on Friday at Glidden-Ralston on 93.7 KKRL.

South Central Calhoun vs South Hamilton

The South Central Calhoun Titans picked up a win over South Hamilton Tuesday night. SCC was much improved compared to last week’s first game of the season. The Titans jumped out to an early 10-8 lead after the first quarter. SCC would extend their lead into halftime as they were up ten at 31-21. South Hamilton would come out of the locker rooms and make a run to bring the game within single digits heading into the fourth quarter. SCC would cling on to a 46-42 lead going to the fourth. The Titans would hit some shots late and make a couple of defensive stops to come away with the victory, as they outscored South Hamilton by two in the quarter to win 61-55.

Bre Patterson led the way in scoring for the Titans with 16 points. Brennan McAlister was the second SCC girl in double figures with 12 points. Off the bench, freshman Sadie Wheelock recorded ten points for SCC. Blair Schleisman led the Titians in assists with six off the bench. McAlister and Patterson each recorded nine rebounds for SCC. With the win, the Titans improved to 1-1 on the season. They are back in action on Friday against East Sac County.
