Both teams looked like they were in good position to get a win in the final minutes as Carroll took control in overtime but couldn’t pull away. Kuemper hung tight and took the lead when Carson Kanne tipped a pass near midcourt to Brock Badding who drained a three from the top of the key, giving Kuemper a 55-54 lead. The Tigers weren’t able to answer and Kuemper got the ball back with a chance to run out the clock. They turned it over, giving Carroll hope. The Tigers called a timeout after getting caught in the lane with the clock running down. They set up a inbound play to get the ball to Evan Hammer. Hammer got the ball, spun into the lane, let the ball go as he was falling backwards, banking it in at the buzzer to give Carroll High a 56-55 win in the season opener for both teams.
Carroll came out firing on all-cylinders on both sides of the court. After Carter Putney scored to put Kuemper up 2-0, Stone Sibenaller hit a three, followed by a back from Evan Hammer, a three from Jared Mohr and another three from Sibenaller. They led 10-2 as Kuemper called a timeout. Carson Kanne hit a three out of the timeout but Jared Mohr knocked down another three for Carroll, followed by back-to-back baskets from Evan Hammer and Carroll led 17-5. Kuemper stayed calm and cut the deficit to 19-12 to end the 1st quarter, then 19-15 after a three from Ben Gerken early in the 2nd quarter. Jared Mohr answered with a pair of threes and Carroll built a 28-15 lead on a bucket by Caden Lengeling. Kuemper started to hit a few shots midway around the 2nd quarter as DJ Vonnahme hit a three, Michael Kasperbauer added a bucket and Hans Kraus cut it to 28-22 with a steal and layup. Evan Hammer added a pair of free throws for Carroll, putting them up 30-23. Michael Kasperbauer made a pair of free throws, then Hans Kraus made a second steal and layup near the buzzer and Kuemper trailed 30-27 at half.
The spark in the 2nd quarter kept going in the 3rd quarter as the Knights went on a 5-0 run to lead 32-30. DJ Vonnahme made it a three point game but Caden Lengeling tied it at 34 and Mac Collison gave Carroll a 35-34 lead but Vonnahme answered for Kuemper and they went back up. The game kept swinging back and forth with Evan Hammer giving Carroll at 38-36 lead as he battled cramps, struggling to get up and down the floor, but giving everything he had. He willed his team to a 42-36 lead. Kuemper answered again with buckets by Vonnahme and Carter Putney who tied the game at 46. Another Hammer bucket kept Carroll ahead, 48-46. Michael Kasperbauer tied the game at 48, then sent the game to overtime with a layup on a nifty dribble drive, tying the game at 50.
Evan Hammer hit a pair of free throws for Carroll to start overtime, then Carter Putney tied it for Kuemper. Hammer scored again and Carroll led 54-52. The Tigers got a stop but a pass that was lofted towards halfcourt hung long enough for Carson Kanne to jump the passing lane, tipping it to Brock Badding, who hit a three from the top of the key. Carroll didn’t score and Kuemper got the ball back and had the shot clock off. The Tigers fouled, forcing Kuemper to inbound the ball on the baseline. The pass went out of bounds, giving the Tigers hope. Carroll set up a play and got into the paint but couldn’t get a shot off, forcing them to call a timeout. They setup what turned into the game winner, getting the ball to Evan Hammer who hit a falling down fadeaway, banking it in at the buzzer to win the game 56-55.
Evan Hammer led Carroll with 25-points and 10 rebounds. Jared Mohr added 15-points and 7 rebounds. Payton Wardell was aggressive on the glass with 8 rebounds to go with 3 steals. Stone Sibenaller hit two early threes, finishing with 6 points.
Kuemper had four guys in double figures with Michael Kasperbauer and Carson Kanne both finishing with 11-points and DJ Vonnahme, who fouled out in overtime finishing with 10-points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Carter Putney also had 10-points and 6 rebounds. Kanne added 3 steals as did Hans Kraus. Tregan Beiter had a team high 4 steals.
Carroll starts the season 1-0 and hosts Gilbert on Friday while Kuemper sits 0-1 and will head to Denison Schleswig on Saturday.

East Sac took charge early in the game, controlling the paint on both ends of the floor. Ryan Clair used some strong post moves to score early with Ashton Lawler brought some energy off the bench, especially on the defensive side while adding 7-points in the 1st half. East Sac held Woodbury Central to 8-points in the 1st quarter and built a 37-22 lead at half. The Raiders controlled the boards, limiting Woodbury Central to one shot, allowing them to control tempo and get into their offensive sets. Tony Clair sparked the team in the 3rd quarter, adding 9-points, helping the Raiders outscore Woodbury Central 20-10. Sam Julin, getting the start at point guard, handled the pressure from Woodbury Central, finishing the game with no turnovers.
Ryan Clair had 25-points along with 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks. Jackson Rubendall added 6 points and 3 assists. Sam Julin and Ashler Lawler both had 9-points with Julin adding 5 rebounds. Luke Wright had 5 rebounds while Tony Clair finished with 9-points.

South Central Calhoun had a solid defensive effort, holding the Hawks to 47-points, but they struggled shooting, scoring just 44-points in dropping their season opener. The Titans hit just 6-28 from three, going 16-61 from the field overall. A tough 2nd quarter put them in a hold they tried to dig out of. They trailed 27-19 at half before controlling the 3rd quarter. They outscored the Hawks 16-7, tying the game at 34. South Hamilton was able to settle in and grab control in the 4th quarter to edge the Titans for a 47-44 win.
Gavin Batta poured in 30-points while pulling down 6 rebounds. Keegan Soard added 10 rebounds with Andrew Anderson scoring 9-points along with dishing out 5 assists and making 5 steals. Bryce Berquist had a strong rebounding game with 8 rebounds.
The Titans will travel to East Sac on Friday, sitting 0-1. The game Friday will be on KIKD 106.7.

Ar-We-Va traveled to Coon Rapids-Bayard Tuesday night as the Rockets opened up their season against the 1-0 Crusaders. CRB jumped out to a 5-0 nothing lead early in the first quarter after Caden Oswald hit a big three. Following a time-out, Ar-We-Va got back on track as they would eventually tie the game up at seven in the second quarter. The second quarter was all Ar-We-Va as the Rockets would outscore CRB 8-3 and take a 15-10 lead in the locker room. Points were hard to come by in a very physical first half.
The Crusaders looked like a completely different team in the second half as they picked up the defensive intensity and only held the Rockets to nine second-half points. CRB outscored Ar-We-Va 16-3 in the third quarter and 23-6 in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders ended the game on a 39-9 run.
Caden Oswald continued his excellent start to his freshman season by leading all scores with 17 points. Cal Heydon was the second-leading scorer for the Crusaders, as he had 11. After scoring over 20 points on Monday, Cade Behrens did not score for the Crusaders on Tuesday night. Behrens did lead the team in rebounds with ten. Oswald was second on the team with nine rebounds.
Ar-We-Va struggled to shoot the basketball on Tuesday night. Wyatt Ragaller was the leading scorer for the Rockets with seven points. Emmett Neumann almost had a double-double as he pulled nine rebounds and added six points in the scoring column. Blayne Smith led the Rockets with ten rebounds.
Ar-We-Va opens the season 0-1 and will be back in action on Friday against West Harrison. CRB moves to 2-0 on the season with back-to-back wins to start the week. The Crusaders are back in action on Friday at CAM.

The game was a tail of two halves with Missouri Valley using a dominant 2nd quarter to build a 38-25 lead at half. The Wheelers bounced back nicely, holding the Big Red to 16-points in the 2nd half while scoring 20-points in the 4th quarter on their own. A good 3rd quarter gave Audubon some momentum, pulling within 46-41. Missouri Valley scored 24-points in the 2nd quarter, opening up a close game which they led by 1 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Mason Steckler led three players in double figures with 19-points, followed by Edward Miller with 14-points and Aaron Olsen with 13 points.
The Wheelers improved to 1-1 and will host Tri Center on Friday.

Glidden Ralston shot the ball well early, building a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as they roll to a 1-0 start on the season. The Wildcats got early 3’s from Colby Wallace and Jonathan Bergmeier, coupled with the defense creating turnovers that lead to easy transition baskets. They poured in 26-points in the 1st quarter, leading by 17-points on their way to a 42-21 lead at half. Lucas Christian hit a pair of 3’s in the 2nd half, then the Wildcats started pounding the ball inside. The defense played well all game, forcing a lot of turnovers for the game.
Jonathan Bergmeier paced the offense with 23-points with Lucas Christian finishing with 15-points and Colby Wallace with 13-points. Emmett Snyder and Charles Schon both had 8-points.
The Wildcats are 1-0 and will host Paton Churdan on 93.7 KKRL on Friday.

The Wolves led early in the 2nd quarter but then struggled to get shots to fall as Underwood pulled away for a comfortable win. The Eagles led 20-19 at the end of the 1st quarter but IKM-Manning grabbed a quick 24-22 lead early in the 2nd quarter. Underwood clamped down, outscoring the Wolves 14-2 the rest of the half, building a 36-26 lead at half. The Wolves still felt good at half but a slow start in the 3rd, helped the Eagles pull away as they outscored the Wolves 20-3. Underwood added the first 7-points in the 4th quarter as they rolled to a 72-37 win.
Ben Ramsey led the Wolves with 15-points with Ross Kusel adding 7 points and 3 steals. Ben Langel added 6-points and Isaac Blankman finished with 5-points. Lane Sams led the team with 5 rebounds.
