The first set was tight and set two was close until Kuemper went on a 7-0 run and never looked back. The Knights advance into the Regional Final on Wednesday against Ridge View with a 3-0 sweep of the South Central Calhoun Titans. The Titans led early in both sets one and two but couldn’t hold off the Knights. The Kuemper serve got the Titans out of system and South Central Calhoun was limited in kill attempts at the net, playing into an aggressive and balanced Kuemper attack. The Knights finished with 42 kills with four girls between 8 and 11 kills. The Titans were limited to 12 kills.

South Central Calhoun took a 2-0 lead in set one but Kuemper tied it at 2. Brenna McAlister kept the Titans in the lead with a kill, then Frannie Glynn cut the Kuemper deficit to 4-3 with a kill. The Titans built a 6-3 lead, then the teams traded kills with Kaci Peter getting a kill for Kuemper and Jayci Graeve picking up kill for the Titans. Back-to-back kills by Lauren Boell pulled Kuemper within 7-6 and the Knights tied it at 7. Boell picked up another kill, making it 8-8, then Kuemper grabbed the lead for the first time at 9-8. Aubrey Heuton extended the lead to 10-8, having three quick kills, helping the Knights go up 13-9. A Jayci Graeve block pulled South Central Calhoun within 13-12, but a 3-0 run with Audrey Heuton having an ace helped the Knights go up 15-12. The Titans pulled within one again at 17-16 but Kaci Peter had a pair of kills and Kuemper led 19-17. Brenna McAlister pulled South Central Calhoun within 21-19 with a kill but Heuton added another kill and Brianna Wittrock had and ace for set point. The Knights took set one 25-20.

a Brenna McAlister ace put the Titans up 2-0 in set two but Kuemper tied it a 4, then took their first lead at 5-4 on a kill by Kaci Peter. Lauren Boell made it 6-4, then Frannie Glynn extended it to 8-4. A 7-0 run by Kuemper made it 9-4 and they never looked back. Karsyn Overmohle had a pair of aces in a three-point stretch and Kuemper pulled away to win 25-13. A quick 3-0 start by Kuemper in set three with Aubrey Heuton having a kill, followed by a kill from Alivia Schenkelberg and an ace from Brianna Wittrock. South Central Calhoun scored to make it 3-1 but never got any closer. The Knights were up 11-4, then scored 9 straight to lead 20-4, winning 25-7 on an ace from Aubrey Heuton.

Aubrey Hueton led a balanced Kuemper attack with 11 kills, followed by Lauren Boell with 9 kills and Frannie Glynn and Kaci Peter with 8 kills each. Brianna Wittrock had 3 aces with Karsyn Overmohle and Frannie Glynn both with 2 aces. Elsa Tiefenthaler added 18 assists with Karsyn Overmohle with 17 assists. Kaylie Simons led a strong back row with 16 digs, going over 1,000 for her career. Brooke Rohe added 7 digs.

Mollie Monahan finished with 4 blocks and 3 kills. Brenna McAlister and Jayci Graeve each had 4 kills. Alexa Holm finished with 8 digs with Jayci Graeve with 6 digs. Norah Riedesel didn’t get many chances, but had 12 assists.

South Central Calhoun ends their season at 27-15 while Kuemper moves to 33-6 and will face Ridge View at Denison on Wednesday on KKRL.

Glidden-Ralston at River Valley – Class 1A Region 1

The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats season comes to an end following a road loss to River Valley. The Wildcats held the lead in every set but could come away with the win. The first set started back and forth, and Glidden-Ralston jumped out to a 13-9 lead in the first set, but River Valley came back to tie the set up at 15 before winning 25-23. The second set started like the first, as it was back and forth. River Valley took a 10-9 lead in the set and never looked back as they outscored the Wildcats 15-3 the remainder of the set to win 25-12. Needing a set win, Glidden-Ralston came out firing in the third set as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. River Valley would come back and tie the set up a nine, and it would be back and forth until the Wildcats took a 14-13 lead and went on to win the set 25-22. Set number four was the final set of the night. River Valley jumped out to a 7-6 and rolled past Glidden-Ralston to pick up a 25-13 victory and a 3-1 match win.

Lauren Hulsing led the Wildcats in kills with 12 as she went over 550 career kills. Summer Toms was also active at the nets, as she recorded eight kills. Addy Boell struggled early in the match but found a groove late as she recorded 24 assists for Glidden-Ralston. Ashlynn Tigges was all over the court defensively for the Wildcats as she recorded a team-high 21 digs. Tiela Janssen was second on the team in digs with 19. As a team, Glidden-Ralston recorded four aces against River Valley. With the loss, the Wildcats season comes to an end at 28-5.
