Kuemper looked focused and ready before the match with MVAOCOU on Wednesday and their play in sets one and two showed how ready they were. The Knights got back-to-back kills from Alivia Schenkelberg and Kaci Peter to give them a 3-1 lead in set one. Peter added a pair of kills and Frannie Glynn had an ace, making it 9-4 and Kuemper never looked back. The Rams pulled within 9-5 but Kuemper scored on a Peter ace, a kill by Lauren Boell and Brianna Wittrock added a kill. Wittrock had two more aces to make it 18-6 as Kuemper scored the final 11-points to win 25-6.

The Rams scored first in set two for their first lead of the night but Alivia Schenkelberg tied it with a kill and Aubrey Heuton had an ace to give the Knights the lead for good. Kaci Peter made it 4-1, then Kuemper got a kill from Frannie Glynn and ace from Elsa Tiefenthaler and a kill from Lauren Boell. The Knights pulled away, going up 15-5 on a kill by Aubrey Heuton. MVAOCOU began to block the Knights outside more and cut the deficit to 17-9 but Elsa Tiefenthaler went on a service run that included three aces and the Knights went on to win 25-12.

MVAOCOU took a 1-0 lead in set three and their block gave Kuemper some troubles but the Knights took the lead for good at 4-3. Kaci Peter extended the lead to 6-3 but the Rams kept it close, pulling within 8-7, then tying the match at 8 and 9. Aubrey Heuton had a kill to give Keumper a 10-9 lead. Brianna Wittrock added a kill, making it 12-9 and Heuton had another kill for a 13-9 lead. Kuemper looked to pull away but the Rams cut it to 18-16. Brianna Wittrock gave Kuemper the momentum back with back-to-back kills and the Knights ended the match with a kill by Heuton.

Brianna Wittrock had a team high 10 kills with Aubrey Heuton adding 9 kills, Lauren Boell 7 kills and Frannie Glynn and Kaci Peter both had 6 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler had team high with 22 assists and 4 aces along with making a great foot save, helping the Knights score. Brianna Wittrock also paced the Knights with 5 blocks with Lauren Boell and Frannie Glynn both having 2 blocks. Kaylie Simons led the Knights with 18 digs while Karsyn Overmohle had 11 assists.

The Knights improve to 32-6 and will host South Central Calhoun on KIKD 106.7 on Monday.

South Central Calhoun vs Westwood- Class 2A Region 2

The South Central Calhoun Titans advance to the 2A Region 2 semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Westwood at home Wednesday night. The Titans won every set despite the scores getting closer each time. SCC jumped out quickly to a 1-0 lead with a 25-17 victory in set one. They followed that up with a 25-18 win in set two to go up 2-0. Set three was the best of the time and the closest as Westwood made adjustments to what SCC was doing throughout the first two sets. SCC would go on to win 3-0 with a 25-19 win in set three. 

Brenna McAlister led the Titans in kills with eight, and Jayci Graeve was second on the team in kills with six. Norah Riedesel did an excellent job of spreading the volleyball around to hitters as she recorded a team-high 24 assists. Mollie Monahan led the Titans in blocks with five. As a team, SCC recorded ten aces. With the win, SCC improved their record to 27-14. They advance to take on Kuemper Catholic on Monday in the class 2A Region 2 semi-finals.

Boyer Valley At Glidden Ralston- Class 1A Region 1

Glidden Ralston avenged one of their four losses during the regular season, knocking off the Rolling Valley Conference champs. They had to rally to do it, dropping the opening set 25-17. The Wildcats used a big night from Lauren Hulsing at the net and a great effort in the back row by a number of girls to fluster the Bulldogs most of the match. The Wildcats had 109 digs on the night with Tiela Janssen digging up 48 attacks, Summer Toms adding 19 digs and Lauren Klocke with 18 digs. That allowed them to earn a win in set two, winning 25-17, then a dominant win in set three (25-14). Boyer Valley came out fighting in set four, trying to stave off elimination but the Wildcats were able to clinch the win, taking the fourth set 26-24.

Lauren Hulsing was really strong at the net all match with 29 kills along with 3 blocks. Tiela Janssen led the back row with 48 digs while Summer Toms had 19 digs to go with 4 aces and Lauren Klocke contributed 18 digs and 2 aces. Addy Boell found her hot hitters, finishing with 42 assists to go with 9 digs. Ashlynn Tigges added 6 kills and 13 digs while Kassidy Wenck had 7 kills.

The win moves the Wildcats to 28-4 on the season. They head to River Valley on Monday on 93.7 KKRL. River Valley topped Audubon 3-1 on Wednesday.

Audubon at River Valley- Class 1A Region 1

The Audubon Wheelers battled hard and dropped a four-setter to a good River Valley team. Audubon struggled in the first set, falling 25-14. Audubon made some adjustments in the second set but lost a close one to River Valley 25-21. The Wheelers were able to come away with their only set win of the night in the third with a dominant 25-11 victory to make the score 2-1. The Wheeler’s season ended in a challenging fourth set that was back and forth, falling 25-20. 

Mattie Nielsen led the Wheelers in kills with 23. Harlow Miller recorded double-digit kills with 12. Addie Hocker passes the ball well for Audubon as she led the team in assists with 35. Audubon recorded five blocks at the net as a team. Miller and Nielsen each had two blocks. Audubon served the ball well tonight as they recorded 13 aces a team. Miller and Kadence Sporrer each had three aces for the Wheelers.

The East Sac County Raiders season comes to an end after a 3-0 loss to West Monona on Wednesday night. Each set was competitive, and ESC held a brief lead in each one. West Monona ran a fast offense that caught the Raiders off guard in the first set. Set one was tied eight times. West Monona took an 11-10 lead and grew it to 18-13. The Raiders would go on to lose the first set 25-20. The second set was competitive like the first. West Monona jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the set. SCC was able to go on a 7-3 run to tie the match up at seven. There were a total of six ties in the set. West Monona took a 16-15 lead in the second set and went on to win 25-19. West Monona went up 2-0. The third set was the best of the night. ESC and West Monona kept chasing each other in the third set as it was tied eight times. West Monona took a 14-13 lead in the third set, but ESC was able to tie the match up at 19 and take a 20-19 lead to force a Spartan timeout. Out of the time out, West Monona went on a run, tied the match at 23, and then went on to win 25-23.

Kate Vondrak led the Raiders in kills with six. Vondrak also recorded a team-high nine assists. Sidney Bieret got the start at setter for the Raiders and was second on the team in assists with seven. Addisen Ehler was second on the team in kills with five. The Raiders only recorded three blocks as a team. Bieret was great serving the ball for the Raiders as she led the team in aces with three. With the loss, the Raiders season comes to an end at 22-8.
