Kuemper wrapped up an undefeated district season with another convincing win on Friday, jumping out 21-0 by halftime on their way to a shutout win. The Knights scored on all three 1st half possessions while forcing the Jaguars to turn it over on downs on their first two drives. The defenses took charge in the 2nd half with Kuemper scoring their only points of the half with 5:38 left in the game and SE Valley turning it over on three interceptions. The Knights pounded out 161-yards on the ground and passed for 92-yards while holding SE Valley to 123-yards rushing and 22-yards passing.

Kuemper opened the game with great field position, starting at their own 45-yard line. They used it to their advantage, marching the ball slowly down the field, going 55-yards on 11-plays with Brock Badding scoring on a 1-yard sneak with 7:54 left in the quarter for a 7-0 lead. SE Valley chewed up the rest of the 1st quarter with a 15-play drive that ended with a intentional grounding and a sack by Tate Bieret, giving the Knights the ball at their own 45-yard line. The Jaguars were in the red zone before the penalty and sack on 3rd and 4th down respectively. Kuemper started their second possession of the game with 11:30 left in the 1st half. They worked their way down field with Brock Badding finding Jake Hausman for a 25-yard touchdown. The pass was tipped in the air by a safety who had jumped the route across the middle, tipping the ball into the air and Hausman made a great catch, then found himself wide open and raced to the goal line, diving into the endzone. The Knights were up 14-0 with 7:50 left in the half. The defense forced another turnover-on-downs as the Knights 34-yard line and Kuemper again scored. Will Simons ran for a 17-yard touchdown, throwing would-be tacklers off him most of the run. The Knights were up 21-0 at half and were in control of the game.

Ben Gerken got the first of his two interceptions on the Jaguars first possession of the 3rd quarter. He gave the Knights good field position at their won 46-yard line. For the first time all game the Knights weren’t able to move the ball, going 3 and out. The defense continued to play well, forcing a 3 and out by the Jaguars. Kuemper fumbled on an option play, turning it over to the Jaguars at the Kuemper 35-yard line. SE Valley ran 11-plays but the Knights stuffed them at the 6-yard line and Kuemper took over possession. A Kuemper punt was followed by an interception by DJ Vonnahme. Kuemper took advantage as Brock Badding hit DJ Vonnahme for a 17-yard touchdown, putting them up 28-0 with 5:38 remaining. Tommy Fitzsimmons went 4-4 on extra-points, breaking the career record for Kuemper on made point-after’s. Ben Gerken sealed the game for Kuemper with his second interception of the game. Kuemper was able to run out the clock, ending the game 28-0.

Kaesin Pierce and Will Simons ran the ball well with Pierce going for 88-yards and Simons rushing for 55-yards and a touchdown. Brock Badding completed 9 of 15 passes for 92-yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jake Hausman had 3 catches and a touchdown while DJ Vonnahme pulled in a pair of catches with one going for a touchdown. Tate Bieret continues to have an outstanding defensive year with 10 tackles, including 3 for a loss and 2 sacks. Coby Pierce had a nice game inside with 7 tackles and Jake Hausman added 7 tackles. Tommy Fitzsimmons went 4-4 on PAT’s, breaking the Kuemper career record.

The Knights finish the regular season at 6-2 and 5-0 in the district. The Knights will play Cherokee in the opening round of the playoffs. The location of the game Friday on KIKD is still being determined.
