Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper Wins, Carroll and Audubon Fall

Kuemper came out a little rusty after 10 days off but rallied found their rhythm midway through the first set and cruised to a 3-0 win on the road. The Knights serve was strong and they were able to force Harlan to hit high over the block, getting several tips and blocks. Set one was tight early with seven ties and four lead changes. Kuemper took the lead for good at 10-9, then didn’t trail again. Harlan grabbed an early lead in set two, but Kuemper took charge early, helped by unforced errors from the Cyclones. The Knights had seven kills and an ace in set two, winning by 12-points. Kuemper dominated set three early with a long service run by Brianna Wittrock, helping them lead 8-0 on their way to a 25-17 win. The Knights had large enough leads in sets two and three that they were able to get all seventeen girls in the match.

Brianna Wittrock had an ace to start set one, but the Knights weren’t able to maintain the momentum, falling behind 4-1. They rallied back to take a 6-5 lead with a kill from Frannie Glynn and an ace from Elsa Tiefenthaler. Lauren Boell had a pair of kills but Harlan went back up 9-8. Boell’s second kill tied it a 9 and Kuemper grabbed the lead with a Harlan error and Brianna Wittrock put them up 11-9. Harlan tied the set at 11 before Kuemper went on a run, taking a 14-11 lead, helped by a kill from Aubrey Heuton. Kuemper slowly pulled away, winning 25-19.

Harlan took a 2-0 lead in set two but the Knights scored six straight with Aubrey Heuton leading the way at the net. Frannie Glynn  had a run of kills helping the Knights run the lead to 11-5. Kaci Peter had an ace, followed by a kill from Lauren Boell and the Knights were up 14-6. Kuemper’s last offensive point came on a kill by Brianna Wittrock, making it 17-9. The Knights went on to win 25-13.

Brianna Wittrock served Kuemper to a 8-0 lead in set three and the Knights never really looked back, getting up 11-1 on their way to a 25-17 win. Kuemper had six different players collect a kill in set three.

Brianna Wittrock had a strong all-around game with 8 kills, 8 digs, 5 blocks and 2 aces. Frannie Glynn had 9 kills to the lead the way with Lauren Boell finishing with 7 kills. Aubrey Heuton added 5 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler and Karysn Overmohle both had 15 assists. Kaylie Simons paced the back row with 21 digs with Overmohle adding 5 digs. Frannie Glynn and Alivia Schenkelberg both had 3 blocks.

The Knights improved to 30-6 and 8-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. They head to Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Thursday.

Carroll vs ADM

The Carroll Tigers fell at home to a very good ADM team Tuesday night. Carroll also held their pink-out night on Tuesday. The Tigers had a lead in every set but would fall to the number three team in 4A. Carroll jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first set, but then a six-point run by ADM saw them take the lead 6-1, and they never looked back, winning 25-13. The second set was close. Carroll jumped out to a 1-0 and then led again 6-5. Another run by ADM saw them take the lead for good as they would score seven straight points to take a 12-6 lead. ADM would go on to win the second set 25-14. The third set was the closest on the night, and Carroll kept it close, but ADM pulled away late. Like the first two sets, Carroll jumped out to a 1-0 lead and took a 2-0 lead before ADM scored four straight to lead 4-2. The closest the set got again was Carroll trailing 17-14, but ADM would go on to win 25-16.

Mollie Feld led the Tigers in kills with four. Amanda Wardell was not far behind as she recorded three kills. Wardell did lead the team in blocks with four. Riley Nagl led the team in assists with seven and also added two kills. The Tigers on the night recorded eight blocks as a team and two aces. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 6-24 and 1-7 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll is back in action on Tuesday when they open up Regional play against Denison-Schleswig at home.

Audubon Vs Treynor- Western Iowa Conference Tournament Semifinals

Audubon fought hard, getting a good night from the defense at the net with six blocks. That helped keep the Treynor hitters from taking control of the match. Audubon was also strong at the service line, getting three aces from Michelle Brooks. Audubon swung well, hitting .148 with 19 kills, due to the effort from Treynor on defense. The back row for the Cardinals covered the court well, keeping Audubon from getting runs started. Treynor swept the Wheelers with Audubon scoring 18, 15 and 20 points.

Mattie Nielsen and Harlow Miller both had 8 kills with Miller adding 8 digs and Nielsen 7 digs. Miller, Addie Hocker and Michelle Brooks all had 2 blocks. Addie Hocker added 14 assists. Kadence Brannan-Sporrer had a team high 12 digs with Anna Larsen finishing with 6 digs.

The loss drops Audubon to 18-10 overall. They play Tri Center in the 3rd place match Thursday at IWCC.
