Volleyball Results Monday, October 9th 

Ar-We-Va and Woodbine At MVAOCOU 

Ar-We-Va came out strong on Monday, taking the opening set from MVAOCOU, winning 25-18. They passed the ball well all night and were especially sharp early against the Rams. They came out aggressive at the net and stayed there all night. A few lulls in their scoring put them behind in sets two and three as they fell 2-1 to the Rams. The Rockets kept their aggressiveness against Woodbine but didn’t have as much success at the net and dropped both sets.

Stats are not available until Tuesday and we will attempt to update them when they come in.

The losses drop Ar-We-Va to 1-21 overall on the season. They head to the Rolling Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday in Coon Rapids.

Audubon and IKM-Manning in the Western Iowa Conference Tournament

The Wheelers advanced into the semifinals of the Western Iowa Conference Tournament with a hard fought give set win over Underwood, getting dominating performances from Mattie Nielsen, Addie Hocker and Harlow Miller, who controlled the net. All five sets were tight with the Wheelers taking sets one and three but dropping sets two and four. The Wheelers had outscored the Eagles by 1-point in the first-four sets combined with Audubon taking set five, getting up 18-17, winning on a ball that hit the ceiling before crossing the net. Audub0on hit .212 at the net while holding Underwood to .115. The Wheelers had 14 blocks with Harlow Miller picking up 7 blocks, forcing Underwood to make adjustments to their swings. Audubon also won the serve battle, getting the Eagles out-of-system, finishing with 14 aces. The Wheelers had six different players have an ace.

Mattie Nielsen paced the offense at the net with 21 kills, followed by 10 kills from Harlow Miller. Nielsen hit .288 with Miller at .250. Addie Hocker kept feeding her hot hitter, finishing with 29 assists. The back row played well as well with Mattie Nielsen leading the way with 12 digs, Anna Larsen and Kadence Brannan-Sporrer both having 11 digs, Addie Hocker had 8 digs and Harlow Miller finished with 7 digs. Miller had 7 blocks with Mattie Nielsen with 3 blocks and Michelle Brooks and Addie Hocker both with 2 blocks. Hocker led the barrage of aces with 4 while Harlow Miller had 3 aces, Anna Larsen, Mattie Nielsen and Kadence Brannan-Sporrer all had 2 aces.

The Wheelers improve to 18-9 and will play Treynor on Tuesday At 7:30 on Underwood At IWCC.

IKM-Manning Vs LoMa At Tri Center

The Wolves looked for their second straight win over LoMa, having defeated the Panthers last week on the road. IKM-Manning played well, leading early in set two, and never trailing by more than 2-4 points in any of the sets. They dropped the first set by 2-points, then grabbed the early lead in set two. LoMa rallied and held on for a 3-point win. IKM-Manning wasn’t able to get a lead in the third set but hung close, again falling  by 3-points. IKM-Manning hit the ball well, finishing with a .221 kill efficiency. They had seven different players finish with at least a kill, having 25 as a team.

Megan Williams had a team high 9 kills, followed by Addisyn Bandow with 4 kills. Ella Richards had 14 assists while Karlee Arp added 9 assists and 3 kills. Grace Carroll and Anna Stangl both had solid nights in the back row with Carroll having a team high 13 digs and Stangl with 11 digs. Karlee Arp added 9 digs to go with a team high 2 blocks to end a solid all-around night.

The loss drops the Wolves to 4-18. They will travel to Glidden Ralston for the opening round of Regionals on Monday.
