Carroll vs Sergeant Bluff-Luton

Carroll 24

SBL 20

The Carroll Tigers pick up a much-needed win at home on homecoming against Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Tigers. Carroll was down by double digits twice in the game, once in the first half and once in the second half. Neither team scored an offensive touchdown in the first quarter, and both teams started slow. The lone score in the first quarter came off a muffed punt by Carroll that SBL recovered in the endzone for a touchdown. The Warriors held a 6-0 lead going into the second quarter, and on their very next offensive possession, they scored a touchdown to take a 13-0 lead over Carroll. The Tigers were able to get the offense going into the second quarter as they scored their first touchdown of the game on a four-yard run by Taidyn Peterson. Carroll would trail 13-6 going into the half.

To start the second half, Carroll would go down by 13 for the second time in the game when SBL returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Down 20-7, Carroll could have packed up shop, but they fought back. Chase Ragaller had over 100 yards on the ground in the first half, and they did an excellent job off using him in the second half as SBL was keying on stopping Ragaller and the Tiger running game with all the focus on Ragaller, which led to other players getting open in the passing game. Carroll cut into the SBL lead at 20-14 when Carter Essick hounded Payton Wardell for a four-yard touchdown. The score would remain 20-14 going to the fourth quarter.

Carroll had the ball to start the fourth, and they were able to take their first lead of the game at 21-20 when Ragaller found the endzone on a nine-yard run. Kieran Polking extended the Tiger lead towards the end of the game on a season-long 37-yard field goal to make the score 24-20. The score would remain the same the rest of the game, and Carroll would go on to win 24-20 over SBL.

Chase Ragaller led the Tigers on offense Friday night, carrying the ball 30 times for 226 yards and one touchdown. Carter Essick was 6 of 15 through the air for 61 yards and a touchdown. Taidyn Peterson, who has done a lot of lead blocking out of the backfield for Carroll, carried the ball three times for six yards and scored a touchdown. Sophomore Quinten Polking led the Tigers in tackles with 6.5. With the win, Carroll improves to 2-5 and 1-2 in district play. The Tigers traveled to the district leader Sioux Central on Friday on KIKD 106.7.
