A big 2nd quarter and a good start to the 3rd quarter wasn’t enough as Carroll forced four turnovers and led 16-13 with 4:51 left in the 3rd quarter but were outscored 29-0 over the final quarter plus to drop their fifth straight game. The loss drops them to 1-5 overall but 0-2 in the district and means they will need to win out to reach the playoffs. The Tigers ran for 176-yards and passed for 138-yards, forced 3 fumbles and had an interception. They turned it over five times though, as Heelan ran for 251-yards with 5 touchdowns while only throwing for 34-yards.
Heelan struck first, scoring on a 1-yard run by Quinn Olson, going up 7-0 with 6:16 left in the 1st quarter. Olson scored again just before the end of the quarter, making it 13-0. Carroll responded , capping a nice drive with a 2-yard touchdown run by Reece Ziegmann with 6:30 left in the 1st half, cutting it to 13-7. Kieran Polking pulled Carroll within 13-10 with a 21-yard field goal with 3:41 remaining in the half. He tied the game on the final play of the half with a 28-yard field goal.
Polking gave Carroll their first lead of the game on the Tigers opening drive of the 2nd half. He booted a 22-yard field goal, capping a drive that ate over seven minutes off the clock. Heelan bounced right back, scoring on a 19-yard run by Ricky Feauto with 3:30 left in the 3rd, putting the Crusaders up 21-16. They added a 41-yard run by Feauto just over a minute later, going up 28-16 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Feauto added a 68-yard run and Quinn Olson hit Mitchell Kime for a 1-yard score with 2:49 left as the Crusaders scored the final 29-points.
Carter Essick threw for 158-yards but was intercepted twice. Reece Ziegmann had 114-yards rushing with a touchdown. Chase Ragaller made 4 catches for 89-yards. Kieran Polking went 3-3 in field goals from 21, 28 and 22-yards.
Carroll hosts Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Friday in a must win game.
