Kuemper vs Des Moines Christian
Kuemper 61
DMC 7
The Kuemper Knights might have locked up a district title Friday night with an impressive 61-7 victory at home over Des Monies Christain. The Kuemeper defense was just as impressive as the offense. The Knights jumped out to a 35-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and recorded four defensive turnovers in the quarter. A 20-point second quarter would put Kuemper up 55-0 going into the half. DMC came out of the locker room, made adjustments, and played a good quarter as they cut into the Kuemper lead to make the score 55-7 to the fourth. The Knights were able to put the finishing touches on the game with a touchdown in the fourth to win the game 61-7 over DMC.
Brock Badding, who came into the season as the backup quarterback, played arguably his best game of the season, completing 9/12 passes for 188 yards and five touchdowns. Carson Kanne was the Knights leading rusher, carrying the ball five times for 47 yards. DJ Vonnahme and Ben Gerken were deep threats for Kuemper offensively. Vonnahme caught four passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Gerken hauled in two catches for 73 yards and two scores. Kent Sanders led Kuemper in tackles with 4.5. Will Simons and Jake Irlbeck each recorded four tackles for the Knights. Vonnahme had an interception that he returned for a touchdown on defense. With the win, Kuemper improves to 4-2 on the season. The Knights are back in action next Friday on the road at Saydel on KIKD 106.7.
