The Audubon Wheelers improve their win streak to five games as they knock off Glidden-Ralston at home Friday night. With the win, the Wheelers now sit top of the 8-Man District 9 standings alone as the only 4-0 team. Despite losing by two touchdowns, the game was closer than the score indicated. In the first quarter, Glidden-Ralston had drives stall out because of penalties and turning the ball over on downs three times in Audubon territory. Evan Alt got the Wheeler offense going in the first quarter with two big runs, both setting up touchdowns. The first score of the game came on an Alt 31-yard touchdown run. On the Wheeler’s next drive, Alt ripped off another big run that set up an Aaron Olsen two-yard touchdown run to put the Wheelers up 16-0. The Wildcats scored their first touchdown of the game in the early part of the second quarter on a touchdown run by Colby Wallace to cut into the Wheeler lead at 16-8. Olsen added his second of four touchdowns on the game for Wheelers late in the second quarter as Audubon would take a 22-8 lead at the half. The third quarter was all Audubon as they extended their lead again to 34-8 on an Aaron Olsen rushing touchdown.
The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats got the passing game going late in the game as they cut into the Audubon lead late in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard touchdown catch from Emmett Snyder. With the score, it cut the Wheeler lead to 34-14. Glidden-Ralston added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter when Colby Wallace found Alex Daniel for a ten-yard touchdown. Despite the Wildcats making a late run in the game, Audubon would go on to win 34-20 over Glidden-Ralston.
Aaron Olsen led the Wheelers on offense as he carried the ball 24 times, recording 150 yards on the ground, and four rushing touchdowns. Olsen was also 8/13 for 73 yards. Evan Alt showed off his speed by averaging over ten yards a carry Friday. Alt carried the ball eight times for 98 yards and scored a touchdown. Austin Christensen was all over the place defensively for Audubon, as he led the team in tackles with 12. Both quarterbacks were fantastic Friday night. Colby Wallace was the leading rusher for Glidden-Ralston. He carried the ball 20 times for 72 yards and a touchdown. He was also 8/15 for 110 yards and two more touchdowns through the air. Emmett Snyder also recorded three receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats. Alex Daniel led Glidden-Ralston defensively, recording 11 tackles.
With the win, Audubon improves their record to 5-1 as they head to Collins-Maxwell in week seven. Glidden-Ralstons recorded drops to 4-2 as they are back home next week with a big matchup against Coon Rapids-Bayard.
