Kuemper played well in their opener of the triangular on Tuesday, sweeping a strong Red Oak team. The match was tied twenty-one times along with changing leads nine times. Red Oak took the lead early in set one, holding a one or two-point lead with Kuemper tying it at 1 and 4 but unable to take the lead until Aubrey Heuton had a kill, giving them a 10-9 lead. Kaci Peter, Lauren Boell and Heuton had kept Kuemper close with kills until the Knights tied it at 9. Red Oak took the lead back at 12-11, going back up 13-11 but Kuemper scored two straight with Frannie Glynn killing it to tie the set at 13. Aubrey Heuton again came up bit with a kill, putting the Knights up for good at 15-14. A Lauren Boell kill extended the Kuemper lead to 18-15, then Elsa Tiefenthaler took over. Tiefenthaler had three aces, leading the Knights on a 8-0 run to win the set 25-15.

Both teams battled hard in set two again, as the set was tied ten times, featuring five lead changes. A Kaylie Simons ace gave the Knights the early 3-2 lead after trailing 1-0 and being tied at 1 and 2. Red Oak quickly responded, going up 4-3. Frannie Glynn kept the Knights close with a kill, followed moments later by a Lauren Boell kill, keeping the Knights down 1. Brianna Witrrock and Aubrey Heuton both had a kill but the Knights still trailed 9-8. They tied the set at 10 and 11, then took the lead at 12-11. Red Oak scored two in a row, but Kaci Peter tied it at 13 with a kill. Brianna Wittrock put Kuemper back up at 15-14 and Kaci Peter made it 16-14 with an ace. Red Oak tied the set at 17 but Aubrey Heuton had a kill, putting Kuemper up 19-17. Red Oak tied it a 20 but Kuemper scored five in a row with Elsa Tiefenthaler at the service line as she had another late ace and Frannie Glynn ended it with a block.

Red Oak built and early 5-1 lead in set three but the Knights didn’t fade, getting a pair of kills from Brianna Wittock sandwiched by a kill from Lauren Boell and Kuemper pulled within 9-7. Aubrey Heuton had back-to-back kills tying the set at 11 but Red Oak responded with a pair of points. Frannie Glynn broke the run with a kill and Kaci Peter kept the Knights within two with a kill, pulling them within 15-13. Lauren Boell made another kill, pulling Kuemper within 1 and two points later Brianna Wittrock gave them the lead at 18-17. Red Oak was able to tie the game at 18 and 19 but the Knights again pulled away. This time Elsa Tiefenthaler had a kill and Lauren Boell added an ace. Aubrey Heuton ended the match with a kill, giving Kuemper a 25-19 win.

Elsa Tiefenthaler had 17 assists and a team high 6 aces. Aubrey Heuton and Lauren Boell both had 9 kills while Frannie Glynn and Kaci Peter each had 6 kills. Brianna Wittrock had 7 digs and 5 kills. Karsyn Overmohle finished with 11 assists and Kaylie Simons was really strong in serve receive as well as finishing with 20 digs. Brooke Rohe added 7 digs.

Kuemper took St Albert’s best shot in the opening set, finding a way to pull out a tough 2-point win. The Knights responded by taking charge early in sets two and three, earning the sweep. Kuemper back row kept the Saintes from getting on any type of run and the Knights balance at the net proved to be too much with Kuemper having seven different players with a kill and five of them between six and eleven kills. Kuemper wasn’t just strong swinging at the net, their defense was really good, finishing with eleven blocks.

Karsyn Overmohle had s strong game with 23 assists and a pair of aces. Kaci Peter had a team high 11 kills, Aubrey Heuton had 9 kills, Brianna Wittrock and Frannie Glynn both had 7 kills and Lauren Boell finished with 6 kills. Kaylie Simons was fantastic again with 23 digs with Wittrock added 9 digs. Elsa Tiefenthaler finished with 18 assists. Brianna Wittrock and Frannie Glynn both had 4 blocks.

Kuemper won their 13th in a row, improving to 19-3 overall and 5-0 in the Hawkeye 10. They head to Bishop Heelan on Saturday for the CYO Tournament.

The Carroll Tigers end an 11-game losing streak with a home win over Denison-Schleswig Tuesday night. The Tigers started slowly, dropping the first set 25-23 to fall behind early 1-0. Carroll looked like a different team in the second set, fixing some errors, and would go on to win 25-18 to tie the match at 1-1. After a set two win, Carroll dominated the third set as they rolled by Denison-Schleswig 25-9. Denison-Schleswig made things interesting down the stretch in set number four, but the Tigers came away with a 26-24 victory and won the match 3-1. 

Riley Nagl passed the ball well as the Tigers setter as she dished out 34 assists. Three Tigers recorded double-digit kills. Olivia Rowedder led the way with 11, and Katelyn Aden and Mollie Feld each recorded 10. Carroll combined for ten blocks on the night and picked up four aces. With the win, Carroll moves to 2-11 on the season. They are back in action on Thursday against Winterset.

Glidden Ralston let one slip away as they suffered the first loss of the season. The Wildcats started quickly, winning the first-two sets. The Cougars gained momentum but nearly sneaking out set two, which helped them rebound and take set three. Glidden Ralston cruised in the opening set, winning by 6, then had to squeeze out a 2-point win in the second set. CAM took set three and won set four comfortably to send it to a fifth set. CAM defense came on strong as the match went on, keeping balls alive, allowing their hitters to get a high number of swings. The Cougars led set five 14-11 but Glidden Ralston rallied with a pair of points and tried to drop the ball in the deep corner on the matches final point. Glidden Ralston swung well, finishing with 49 kills with 45 of them coming off sets. They had seven different players finish with a kill.

Ashlynn Tigges had another strong night at the net, leading the Wildcats with 16 kills. She has a nice rhythm with Addy Boell who had 36 assists to go with 5 kills and 3 aces. Brileigh Bock had 9 kills, Summer Toms added 8 kills and Lauren Hulsing finished with 7 kills. Lauren Klocke had a team high 4 aces and Tiela Janssen added 6 assists as the libero.

The Wildcats fall to 6-1 overall and will host West Harrison on Thursday.

The Audubon Wheelers handled their business at home against Missouri Valley Tuesday night. Audubon jumped out to a 13-4 lead in set number one. After a late comeback from Missouri Valley, the Wheelers would go on to win set one 25-22. Mattie Nielsen totaled eight of her team-high 15 kills in the first set. In the second set, it was all Missouri Valley despite the score being close. The Wheelers next lead in the set and lost 25-18, going to an essential third set. Audubon got down early in the third set but took control and led most of the set, taking a late 21-11 lead before winning 25-18. In the three sets Audubon won, they built leads of nine plus each time. Set number four was all Audubon as they used momentum from the third set to jump out to an early lead and never look back as they picked up a 25-17 win and a match win 3-1. 

Mattie Nielsen led the way for the Wheelers at the nets, leading them with 16 kills. Harlow Miller was not far behind as she picked up 15 kills and four aces. Miller also added 19 digs on the night. Addie Hocker was active all over the court as she picked up her 1,000 assists. The win improves the Wheeler’s record to 9-3 and 1-1 in conference play. Audubon is back in action on Thursday at home against Tri-Center.

Coon Rapids Bayard slides closer to 500 on the season with a hard fought win on the road against Ar-We-Va on Tuesday. The Crusaders were sharp in the first set, winning 25-10 but Ar-We-Va battled hard the rest of the night as an inexperienced Rocket team nearly won set two, then took set three 25-14. The Crusaders bounced back to take set four, earning their sixth win of the season. The Crusaders finished with a .037 kill efficiency, finishing with 27 kills and 27 assists. The back row hustled all night for both teams with Coon Rapids Bayard finishing with 94 digs, with four players in double figures. The Crusaders served well, finishing with 10 aces and a 93.1% serve efficiency. The Rockets had five players with a kill, finishing the match with 21 kills and 19 assists. Their serve was effective with 10 aces.

Malia Clayburg continues a strong sophomore season with 13 kills while Anna Hart added 9 kills. Mya Downing and Ella Heithoff both had 12 assists. Hart and Clayburg were a big part of their success in the backrow with Hart having 23 digs and Clayburg 22 digs. Aubrey Hofbauer added 15 digs and Elle Heithoff had 12 digs. Anna Hart added a team high 4 blocks and Heithoff led the Crusaders with 4 aces.

Annalee Wittrock and Morgan Schrad led the Rockets with 5 kills each. Trista Reis added 4 kills. Delaney Schurke had a team high 4 aces and Reis finished with 3 aces. Delaney Schurke(24 digs), Trista Reis (23 digs) and Emma Leiting (14 digs) played well in the back row for the Rockets. Amber Ragaller finished with 15 assists.

Coon Rapids Bayard improves to 6-7 overall as they head to the OABCIG Tournament on Saturday. Ar-We-Va slips to 0-6 and will travel to Paton Churdan on 93.7 KKRL  on Thursday.

IKM-Manning continues to show growth with a lot of younger players getting valuable experience. The Wolves hit .162 on against Tri Center, finishing with 19 kills. They only made 8 errors on 68 attempts for their best hitting match of the season. The back row hustled for 55 digs, averaging 18.3 per set. IKM-Manning played their best in set two, falling 25-18.

Karlee Arp a sophomore led the Wolves with 6 kills while adding 10 digs and the Wolves only ace. Freshman Addisyn Bandow finished with 5 kills. Sophomore Abby Wanser added 4 kills. Another sophomore in Grace Carroll had a team high 16 digs, followed by seniors Ella Richards with 7 digs and Eryn Ramsey with 6 digs. Senior Megan Williams had a team high 2 blocks.

The loss drops IKM-Manning to 2-5 and 0-2 in the Western Iowa Conference. They travel to Underwood on Thursday.

Paton Churdan dropped their third match of the season, falling at Exira-EHK, who improved to 4-4 overall. The Rockets got a pair of kills from Mia Russell and 2 aces from Kaliyah Minnehan. Grace Cullum added a pair of assists. The Spartans were able to control the match with their serve and hit well at the net.

Paton Churdan falls to 0-3 and will host Ar-We-Va on 93.7 KKRL.
