Volleyball Results Tuesday, September 5th 

North Polk At Carroll High

Carroll battled hard all night but North Polk controlled the match with a strong serve that kept Carroll from getting in system. The Tigers were forced to send free balls over the net, allowing the Comets to run a quick and aggressive offensive attack. Carroll hung tough until late in the first set, down 16-12 after a big block from Olivia Rowedder. Carroll stayed in striking distance, down 18-13 but North Polk got on a service run, scoring the final seven points in the set. Olivia Rowedder had three kills early in set one and Emma Kuhlmann added a kill, tying the set at 5. A 6-1 run by North Polk put them in control, but Amanda Wardell got Carroll on a mini-run with a kill as Carroll pulled within 11-8. Wardell added another kill and Olivia Rowedder had a kill, pulling the Tigers within 15-10.

A 9-0 service run by Ava Croft to start the second set put North Polk in command and Carroll never found a rhythm.  Amanda Wardell snapped the early run with a kill, cutting the deficit to 9-1. Mollie Feld, who did a nice job swinging aggressively added a kill to pull Carroll within 16-5 but Carroll wasn’t able to close the gap as the Comets served several big runs. Olivia Rowedder got the Tigers on the board in set three, but not before they trailed 4-0. The Tigers cut it to 5-4 but North Polk went on a 10-0 run, snapped by a kill from Rowedder, followed by a Mollie Feld kill, pulling Carroll within 16-6. The Comets finished the match with a 9-4 run.

Olivia Rowedder led the Tigers with 6 kills, 9 digs and 2 blocks. Riley Nagl had a team high 11 assists. Emma Kuhlmann finished with 3 blocks. Averi Burke added 5 kills while Marasyn Wittrock and McKenna Schwertfeger both had 4 digs.

Carroll falls to 1-5 and will head to Rockwell City for the South Central Calhoun Tournament on Saturday.

Clarinda and Denison-Schleswig At Kuemper- Triangular

The Kuemper Knights started slow in their home opener against Clarinda but dominated late to pick up a 3-1 win over the Cardinals. The Knights led the whole first set despite the close score and picked up a 25-19 win to take a 1-0 lead. The second set was an entirely different story as Clarinda was the more aggressive team as the lead Kuemper the whole set. Clarinda had match point at 24-16 before Kuemper made a run but ultimately fell 25-22 in the second set. The Knights had to burn two timeouts in the second set. In the third and fourth set, Kuemper dominated at the serving line as they picked up multiple aces. The third set started back and forth, with both teams holding the lead, but the Knights pulled away late due to defense at the nets and mistakes by Clarinda. Kuemper would pick up a 25-15 victory in set three to lead 2-1. Set number four was all Kuemper, as Clarinda looked like they had no gas left in the tank. The Knights game out aggressively at the nets on the offensive and defensive sides, recording multiple blocks. Kuemper held a 21-8 lead late in the fourth before Clarinda made a later run, but the Knights would eventually win 25-15. With the four-set 3-1 win, Kuemper picked up a conference win against Clarinda.

Aubrey Heuton led the Knights in kills with ten. Heuton also picked up an ace against Clarinda. Elsa Tiefenthaler continues to pass the ball well for Kuemper as she picks up 22 assists. Tiefenthaler was also a factor around the court, picking up a kill and three aces. Frannie Glynn led the Knights with five aces. The Knights were active at the nets defensively, recording 15 blocks against Clarinda. Alivia Schenkelberg led the team with five blocks.

Denison Schleswig At Kuemper

Kuemper completed the sweep by beating Denison-Schleswig 3-0. Kuemper showed they were a better team. Denison-Schleswig scored at most 12 points in a match. Kuemper won the first set dominantly, winning 25-7. The Knights picked up right where they left off with a set two win 25-12. 12 was the highest Denison-Schleswig would score, and Kuemper would win the last set 25-10 to win 3-0. 

Aubrey Heuton continued her great night as she led the team in kills again, picking up seven. Brianna Wittrock and Lauren Boell each record six kills for the Knights. Kuemper dominated the serving line as they combined for 16 aces against Denison-Schleswig. Wittrock led the team in aces, finishing with four. Elsa Tiefenthaler, Karsyn Overmohle, and Kaylie Simons combined for 30 assists for Kuemper. With the win, the Knights record improves to 11-3 on the season. Kuemper is back in action on Saturday at the SCC Master Blaster Invitational.

Glidden Ralston was dominant in every facet of the match against Madrid, picking up a 2-0 win. The Wildcats had 12 aces, using their strong serve to keep the Tigers out of system. Glidden Ralston took advantage of the balls coming back to them but pounding out 18 kills in limited opportunities. They had seven different players finish the night with a kill.

Addy Boell and Summer Toms led the Wildcats with 5 kills each. Elizabeth Lloyd added 3 kills. Boell had a team high 8 assists while also leading the team with 6 digs and 4 aces. Summer Toms added 3 aces while Ashlynn Tigges had 4 digs.

Glidden Ralston Vs Audubon

Glidden Ralston got a huge win over a strong team they could see later this season in the postseason. The Wildcats had a strong match defensively, keeping balls alive and sending balls over that caught the Wheelers off-guard. Audubon struggled early to get their offense rolling but came on in set two. After Glidden Ralston controlled the first set, the Wheelers were able to pull out a hard fought win to send the match to the third set. The final set went back and forth with both teams making key plays. Glidden Ralston gained control late in the set with Addy Boell making a few key dumps at the right time for kills.

Summer Toms paced a balanced Glidden Ralston attack with 7 kills, Ashlynn Tigges had 6 kills while Addy Boell and Kassidy Wenck both had 5 kills and Elizabeth Lloyd added 4 kills. Addy Boell finished with 18 assists. Ashlynn Tigges was a big part of the outstanding play in the back row, finishing with 20 digs while Tiela Janssen added 10 digs and Kassidy Wenck had 6 digs.

Mattie Nielsen had a team high 13 kills for Audubon with Harlow Miller ending with 6 kills, Addie Hocker 5 kills and Maddie Kaspberbauer with 4 kills. Hocker added 20 assists, 6 digs and 4 aces. Mattie Nielsen led the back row with 12 digs and Kadence Brannan-Sporrer had 8 digs. Harlow Miller had 2 of the teams 4 blocks.

Glidden Ralston is 3-0 to start the season and will head to Madrid on Monday for a quad with Madrid, Baxter and Collins Maxwell.

After a slow start the Wheelers earned the win over Madrid, taking the first set 25-20, then rolling in set two, winning 25-6. The Wheelers struggled with errors early, keeping them from stringing points together. They came out in set two and played more their style of volleyball, serving really aggressively. They finished with 15 aces with six different players had an ace. Audubon hit .116 against Madrid, finishing with 14 kills. Their block was solid with four different girls picking up at least one.

Addie Hocker had 9 assists, getting her hitters involved. Mattie Nielsen led them with 6 kills while Harlow Miller finished with 4 kills. Anna Larsen paced the strong service match with 4 aces while Mattie Nielsen and Kadence Brannan-Sporrer both had 3 aces.

The Wheelers moved to 8-2 on the season and will head to Riverside on Thursday.

IKM-Manning at Ar-We-Va

IKM-Manning came out on top over Ar-We-Va 3-0 in a matchup between two area schools. The Rockets started slow but played better as the match progressed. IKM-Manning crushed through the first set, picking up a 25-12 victory. The second set was the same as the first, with the Wolves beating the Rockets 25-10 to take a 2-0 lead. The third set was back and forth and was Ar-We-Va’s best of the night. The Wolves would come out on top 25-21 to pick up a 3-0 victory over the Rockets. 

For IKM-Manning, they were led by Abby Wanser and Megan Williams, who recorded six kills. The Wolves combined for 20 assists in the game, with 11 coming from Karlee Arp. Williams also recorded four blocks against Ar-We-Va. IKM-Manning served the ball well, recording ten aces. With the win, IKM-Manning improved their record to 2-3 on the season. With the loss, Ar-We-Va drops to 0-4. The Rockets are back in action on Thursday at home against West Harrison. The Wolves will be in action on Thursday as well against Missouri Valley.
