Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Area Volleyball Teams Went 5-6 on Tuesday

Kuemper At Creston

Kuemper was dominant on the road, using a strong serve to keep the Panthers out of system. The Panthers struggled against the Knights serve forced them to make a lot of attacks from behind the attack line. That helped Kuemper stay aggressive, finishing with a .328 kill efficiency with 30 kills on 30 assists. The back row was strong on the free-balls from Creston and Kuemper was able to play fast. The Knights were equally good at the net with  11 blocks. Kuemper served 90%, finishing with 15 aces.

Lauren Boell and Frannie Glynn both had 7 kills while Kaci Peter finished with 6 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler led the setters with 19 assists and Karsyn Overmohle finished with 10 assists. Kaylie Simons paced the back row with 17 digs and Brianna Wittrock had 6 digs. Simons and Aubrey Heuton had 3 aces while Frannie Glynn, Kaci Peter, Lauren Boell and Brianna Wittrock all had 2 aces.

The Knights improved to 9-3 and are off until next when they host Clarinda and Denison Schleswig.

East Sac was impressive taking control of set one early before pulling away. They led big early in set two, then had to hold on as Coon Rapids Bayard settled in and cut it to 2-points midway through the set. East Sac edged away down the stretch, earning their 7th win of the season, 25-12, 25-18.

The Raiders scored first but back-to-back points for Coon Rapids Bayard, gave the Crusaders their first lead off an ace from Anna Hart. Kate Vondrak tied the set at 2 with a kill for the Raiders and Hart scored on a kill for Coon Rapids Bayard. Coon Rapids Bayard took their final lead of the set at 4-3 on a kill by Malia Clayburg. The Raiders tied the set for the fourth and final time and took the lead for good on a kill by Addisen Ehler. A Vondrak ace, followed by a kill from Kami Ross put the Raiders up 9-4. Kendall Quirk made it 13-6 on a over the head kill and the Raiders were in control. The Raiders were able to stay aggressive as Coon Rapids Bayard kept sending free-balls over the net, allowing the East Sac to get good swings. Kenna Meyer and Kate Vondrak had back-to-back kills, putting the Raiders up 18-8. The Raiders rolled to a 25-12 win.

The Raiders opened set two with a 7-0 run with kills by Kate Vondrak. Aubrey Hofbauer got the Crusaders on the board, followed by a kill from Malia Clayburg, an ace from Anna Hart, kill from Aubrey Hofbauer and another ace from Hart. The Crusaders cut it to 7-6 but Kate Vondrak and Sidney Bieret had back-to-back kills, putting East Sac up 9-6. Coon Rapids Bayard kept fighting, keeping within 3 but an Raider 5-0 run put the set away, winning 25-18.

Kate Vondrak and Addisen Ehler both had 6 kills for the Raiders with Vondrak adding 6 assists. Sidney Bieret had a team high 10 assists. Jen Aschinger led the back row with 6 digs.

Anna Hart had 3 kills to lead Coon Rapids Bayard, Malia Clayburg and Aubrey Hofbauer both had 2 kills. Aubrey added a team high 7 blocks and Shelbi Wiskus added 4 blocks. Ella Heithoff finished with 5 assists and 9 digs while Anna Hart added 8 digs.

IKM-Manning scored to start the game on a kill from Megan Williams. The Raiders answered back quickly, going up 3-1, then extending the lead to 7-2. The Wolves climbed back within 10-9 as their back row was digging the Raiders attacks and IKM-Manning was able to stay aggressive themselves. East Sac called a quick timeout, coming out with an 8-0 run to take control at 18-9. Abby Wanser scored for the Wolves but an ace from Sarah Bontrager served an ace and the Raiders pulled away, winning the set 25-11 on an ace by Kate Vondrak.

The Raiders never trailed in set two, jumping out 4-1 with Kenna Meyer getting the first kill. Addisen Ehler took over from there with a kill and an ace. Kami Ross made it 9-4 East Sac, then Ehler scored three of the next six points for East Sac, putting them up 16-9. She finished the match with 12 kills and IKM-Manning never got closer than 16-10 on a kill by Grace Carroll.

Addisen Ehler had 12 of the teams 17 kills, hitting .450. Sidney Bieret and Ehler both had 4 digs while Kate Vondrak led the team with 9 assists.

Karlee Arp led the Wolves with 5 assists, Ella Richards had 4 assists with Megan Williams leading them with 3 kills. Grace Carroll and Eryn Ramsey both had 4 digs while Williams and Abby Wanser both had 2 blocks.

The Raiders improved to 7-2, having won 3 in a row. IKM-Manning played CRB and the story is below. East Sac heads to Pocahontas Area on Thursday.

IKM-Manning earns their first win of the season, moving to 1-1 with an impressive win over Coon Rapids Bayard. The Wolves never trailed in the match and were tied only three times. The Wolves serve gave the Crusaders trouble, getting them out of system. Coon Rapids Bayard battled hard, playing the first set without Malia Clayburg, who returned for set two.

Megan Williams put the Wolves up to start the match, Eryn Ramsey added an ace and Williams extended it to 3-0 with a kill. Karlee Arp grabbed a pair of kills and Laura McCarville added a kill as the Wolves went up 6-3. Coon Rapids Bayard clawed back, scoring three in  row, tying the set at 6. Arp put the Wolves up with a kill, then Abby Wanser scored, making it 8-6. The Crusaders hung tough, trailing 12-11 before the Wolves went on a 10-1 run with Arp adding another pair of kills, to go with kills from Eryn Ramsey and Abby Wanser. Wanser put the Wolves up 24-15 with her second kill of the match.

Set two started similarly to set one with the Wolves getting out with kills from Megan Williams and Karlee Arp, then Eryn Ramsey had back-to-back tough serves, extending the lead to 7-1. Malia Clayburg sparked the Crusaders with a kill and Coon Rapids Bayard battled back to tie the set at 11. Kate Stangl changed the momentum back to IKM-Manning with a block, putting them up 12-11. Kills from Eryn Ramsey and Megan Williams made it 19-13 and t he Wolves didn’t look back. Karlee Arp had a kill, making it match point and Anna Stangl had an ace to end the match.

Karlee Arp had a team high 7 kills and Megan Williams added 6 kills to lead the Wolves. Ella Richards had 10 assists and Karlee Arp had 6 assists. Eryn Ramsey led the back row with 5 digs while Ella Richards finished with 6 aces.

Anna Hart and Aubrey Hofbauer both had 3 kills for Coon Rapids Bayard. Mya Downing and Ella Heithoff each had 3 assists. Anna Hart led the back row with 5 digs and Aubrey Hofbauer finished with 4 digs.

The Wolves are 1-1 and will host Boyer Valley on Thursday while Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 3-4 and will travel to Earlham on Thursday.

The Carroll Tigers were able to pick up a set on the road at Gilbert but ultimately struggled as they opened conference play Tuesday night. Gilbert picked up a set one win in dominant fashion, beating Carroll 25-13. The Tigers looked to fix the miscues in the first set and beat Gilbert 25-20 in the second set to tie the match up at 1-1. Gilbert would respond by beating Carroll in set three, winning 25-11. Gilbert would put the Tigers away by picking up a 25-13 win in set four to beat Carroll 3-1.

Olivia Rowedder led the Tigers in kills, picking up ten on the night. Riley Nagl continued her hot start to the season, picking up 21 assists in the loss. Amanda Wardell was second on the team in kills with seven. As a team, Carroll picked up 58 digs and three aces. The loss drops the Tigers to 1-4 on the season. Carroll is back in action on Saturday, September 9, in the SCC Master Blaster Invitational.

South Central Calhoun won convincingly over Panorama, sweeping them 3-0 Tuesday night at home. The Titans looked to be aggressive early as they won the first set 25-15. SCC would win by a wide margin in the second set, picking up a 25-11 victory. The third set was the most challenging as it was the closest of the three, but SCC was able to put Panorama away with a 25-18 victory to take game one of two in a triangular 3-0. 

The Titans were led by Brenna McAlister, who picked up 14 kills in the match. SCC passed the ball well throughout the game, as Norah Riedessel picked up 21 assists. Jayci Graeve was all over the court for the Titans as she finished with eight digs and nine kills. As a team, SCC finished with 15 aces in the win over Panorama.

South Central Calhoun vs Greene County

The Titans had a fight on their hands in the second game of the three-team triangular. SCC would go 1-1 on the night with a close 3-0 loss to Greene County. The Rams picked up a win in the first set after it had to go to extra points and won 27-25. The Titans would fall behind 2-0 in the match with another two-point loss to Greene County 25-23. Greene County picked up the win in another close set, winning 25-21. 

The Titans passed well against the Rams and swung well but could not get points to put Greene County away. Norah Riedessel continued her good night, picking up 21 assists again in the second match. Multiple girls were active at the nets, with Brenna McAlister leading the team with eight kills. Jayci Graeve and Mollie Monahan each had seven kills. Monahan also led the team with two blocks. With the loss, the Titans recorded drops to 4-5 on the season. SCC is back in action on Thursday against GTRA and Storm Lake St. Mary’s.

Orient Macksburg At Paton Churdan

Paton-Churdan struggled at home Tuesday night against Orient-Macksburg, losing 3-0. OM jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, winning set one 25-8. PC made some adjustments in the second set but lost 25-15. Orient-Macksburg picked up a 25-14 win and beat Paton-Churdan 3-0 in a deciding third set.

Mia Russell led the Rockets with six kills. The loss drops Paton Churdan to 0-1 on the season. The Rockets are back in action on Thursday, September 7, against Boyer Valley.
