The IKM-Manning Wolves emerged victorious in a week one matchup between two area schools 19-15. Both teams went 2-7 last year, with ESC making the class 1A playoffs. IKM-Manning received the ball to open the game and drove down the field. The Wolves started a sophomore at QB in Ben Ramsey. On the game’s opening drive, IKM-Manning looked like the more dominant team as Ramsey went 3-3 on the drive before throwing an interception on a jump ball in the endzone. The ESC Raiders took over for their first position of the game following the big interception by Charlie Veit. The Raiders went three and out and punted. Later in the first quarter, IKM-Manning started with good field position. The Wolves scored the game’s first points when Davis Rasmussen recovered a fumble in the endzone. The PAT was blocked, and IKM-Manning took an early 6-0 lead over ESC. Later in the first quarter, ESC had the ball well into IKM-Manning territory, but the Wolves defense held firm and the Raiders kicked a 24-yard field goal to cut into the Wolves lead 6-3.
Going into the second quarter, both defenses held firm. The only points scored were on a Luke Wright field goal from 25 yards, as we were tied 6-6 going to the half. Coming out of the locker rooms, ESC started with the football and looked like a different team and drove the length of the field to take their first lead of the game at 12-6 when Tate Lahr found Bradyn Burns in the endzone. IKM-Manning responded with a long touchdown drive of their own to regain the lead 13-12 on a five-yard touchdown run by Ben Langle. Each team keep responding to the other team’s score. ESC regained the lead in the fourth quarter on a 42-yard field goal by Luke Wright to make the score 15-13. As the fourth quarter clock was winding down the Wolves got the ball back and drove down the field sealing the game on a 22-yard reception by Davis Rasmussen to make the score 19-15. ESC made it interesting in the final minute of the game but was unable to score as the IKM-Manning Wolves would walk away victorious, 19-15.
