St. Mary’s made their second straight trip to the class 1A state championship game against a Lisbon team that has made the state tournament three consecutive years. In the top of the first inning, Lisbon picked up two hits but stranded two runners on base, and we were tied 0-0 going to the home half of the first. In the home half of the first inning, St. Mary’s picked up three hits, scoring one run to take an early 1-0 over Lisbon going to the second inning. Both teams did not score in the second. St. Mary’s extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning. They picked up three runs on three hits. Lisbon scored their first runs in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs in the inning and the bases load, Lisbon’s eight-hole hitter cleared them with a double. Lisbon scored three runs in the inning on three hits and trailed St. Mary’s 4-3 going to the home half of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Lisbon got another runner on base but could not score. St. Mary’s extended their lead in the home half of the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 7-4 lead over Lisbon. In the sixth, Lisbon was able to cut into the lead, scoring a run on a double steal attempt to make the score 7-4. St. Mary’s went in order in the home half of the sixth, and Lisbon would come to bat needing three runs to keep the game going in the top of the seventh. In the top of the seventh, Lisbon got a runner on base but did not score. St. Mary’s would go on to win the class 1A state championship by a final score of 7-4.
