The Merchants put the game to rest early on Thursday in Nevada, scoring 7-runs in the 1st inning, getting a pair of 3-run home runs. They added a 2-run home run in the 3rd inning, finishing with 3-home runs and 13 hits. Ethan Cole and Isaiah Byrkeland held Nevada to 3 hits and 2 earned runs.

Bryce Yosko singled to center, scoring Michael Alt to start the scoring in the 1st inning. Ethan Cole homered a few batters later, scoring Yosko and Joshua Koskie. The Merchants weren’t done yet, Lane Spieker added a 3-run home run, driving in Jordan Brandenburg and Chris Hege. Brandenburg got into the home run hitting contest in the 3rd inning, knocking in Hege, who scored 3-runs in the game. Nevada made a small comeback in the 4th inning, scoring a pair of runs on a single to left and a wild pitch. Carroll answered in the 5th. Chris Hege scored again, this time on an error, with Lane Spieker reaching on a fielder’s choice. That pushed the Merchants lead to 10-2. They added 4 more runs in the 7th with an RBI single by Michael Alt, an RBI walk by Bryce Yosko and a 2-run double to left by Ethan Cole.

Ethan Cole went 6 innings on the mound, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 8. Michael Alt had 3 hits and scored twice, while Ethan Cole homered, a 3-run shot, part of a 5 RBI night. Cole added a double. Lane Spieker also had a 3-run  home run, driving in 4-runs for the game while scoring twice. Jordan Brandenburg added a 2-run home run and scored twice. Bryce Yosko had 2 RBI, Chris Hege scored 3 times and Joshua Koskie scored a pair of runs.

The win improved the Merchants to 22-20. St Joseph rallied with 3-runs in the top 9th to beat Chillicothe pulling the Merchants into a tie with the Mudcats for 3rd in the conference. Carroll is off on Friday while the Mudcats play at St Joseph. Saturday, Carroll plays at St Joseph while Chillicothe is in Clarinda. The Merchants end the season Sunday, hosting Clarinda. Carroll holds the tiebreaker, going 5-2 this season vs Chillicothe. Their magic number is 2.
