West Lyon and Beckman Catholic rounded out day two of semifinal games at Historic Merchants Park in Carroll. In the top of the first inning West Lyon came out aggressive. Their lead-off hitter reached by a hit-by-pitch, and then the next batter got on base via an error. With a sac bunt, the three-hole hitter moved them 90 feet closer to scoring. An RBI ground out to the Beckman Catholics shortstop brought in the game’s first run, and the second run came into score off an RBI single. In the top of the first inning, Beckman Catholic capitalized on mistakes by West Lyon, scoring five runs off of three errors, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Beckman Catholic also picked up three hits in the inning to take a 5-2 lead going to the second inning. In the bottom of the second inning, Beckman Catholic extended their lead by adding two more runs on three hits, taking a 7-2 lead over West Lyon going to the third inning. After the first inning, West Lyon’s bats went silent as they only managed one baserunner in the second and third inning. Beckman Catholic added to their lead in the bottom of the third, placing three runs on two hits. Throw four innings of play. West Lyon struggled on defense, committing five errors on the field. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth inning, West Lyon got a runner on second and first, but a double play ended the inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Beckman Catholic added another run to extend their lead 11-2. Beckman Catholic had a chance to win it by run rule in the sixth, but there were three outs made a third base by Beckman Catholic, and they took an 11-2 lead going to the seventh and final inning. West Lyon led off the top of the seventh with a double, then the next batter was called out at the plate after leaning into a pitch over the plate. West Lyon could not score in the inning and lost to Beckman Catholic 11-2.
Beckman Catholic scored 11 runs on 11 hits and only committed two errors in the field. West Lyon scored two runs over three hits but committed five errors on defense. Beckman Catholic advances to take on Underwood in the Class 2A State Championship game Friday.
