Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Lisbon Gets 2 Late Runs to Beat Kingsley Pierson in 1A Semifinals

Lisbon scored a pair of big runs in the top of the 7th, taking advantage of a struggling Kingsley Pierson pitching staff that walked 12 batters and hit 2 more. Lisbon had the lead runner on base in 6 of 7 innings but only scored in the 1st, 3rd and 7th innings. Kingsley Pierson took advantage of three Lisbon errors to score 3 unearned runs with 2 in the 1st and another in the 3rd but Cohen Kamaus was strong all night for Lisbon, earning the win.

Cohen Kamaus opened the game with a walk, taking 2nd base on a ball to the backstop. Alex Bock singles up the middle, scoring Kamaus with the first run of the game. The Lions end up stranding runners on 1st and 3rd but lead 1-0, going bottom 1st. Conner Beeler reached on an error to lead off bottom of the 1st, Emerson Pratt singles, moving him to 3rd. Evan Neumann grounds out, scoring Beeler. Boston Doeschot singles, putting runners on 1st and 3rd with 1-out. Beau Bubke knocks in Pratt on a fielder’s choice and Kinglsey Pierson goes up 2-1.

Kingsley Pierson turns a double play on a sac bunt as Kaden Caspers rounded 2nd base and slipped, getting in a rundown and getting tagged out. Boston Doeschot has walked 3 batters through 2 innings but Kingsley Pierson leads 2-1 going bottom 2nd. Cohen Kamaus settles in, getting Kingsley Pierson in order bottom 2nd.

Cohen Kamaus walks to start the top 3rd, steals 2nd base and moving to 3rd base on a wild pitch. Kamaus scored on a single to right field by Landon Stolte, chasing Boston Doeschot from the game.  Jackson Nissen comes in to pitch for Kingsley Pierson. Hunter Clark and Luke Czaranecki both walked to load the bases with2-outs. Nissen walked Kaden Caspers, scoring Stolte but gets out of trouble with Lisbon scoring 2-runs on 4 walks and a base hit. Lions take a 3-2 lead into the bottom 3rd. Emerson Pratt with a 1-out bloop double down the left field line, moves to 3rd on a throwing error. Pratt scores on the second Lions error of the inning, tying the game at 3.

Jackson Nissen gets a couple outs in the top 4th but walks 2 and is replaced by Kevin Wright, who gets Kingsley Pierson out of the innings with no runs and the game remains tied going bottom 4th inning. Hunter Clark picks off a runner at 1st after a walk to open the bottom half. Game remains tied at 3 after 4 innings.

Dillon Brayton walks to start the 5th, the tenth walk by Kingsley Pierson pitching and moved to 3rd on a fly ball to deep centerfield with 1 out. Kevin Wright gets out of the situation with a strikeout and a fly ball to centerfield, stranding Brayton at 3rd. Kingsley Pierson gets a 2-out walk but doesn’t score bottom 5th and we stay tied at 3.

Conner Beeler came in to pitch for Kevin Wright after the first batter got on base in the top 6th.  Beeler strands the runner at 2nd base. Boston Doeschot singles to right to start the bottom 6th. Cohen Kamaus gets a pair of strikeouts and a pop up in the infield to end the inning still tied at 3-3.

Hunter Clark singles to right to start the top 7th. Dillon Brayton gets hit-by-pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Luke Czaranecki doubles to deep right field, scoring Clark and Lisbon grabs a 4-3 lead with no outs. Kaden Caspers hits a sac fly to right field to score Brayton and the lead grows to 5-3. Beau Bubke replaces Beeler on the hill for Kingsley Pierson. The Lions get 2-runs on 2 hits with 2-walks and a hit-by-pitch and leave the bases loaded top 7th but lead 5-3. Jackson Nissen walks to start the bottom 7th but Lisbon turns a 5-4-3 double play for the first-two outs. Cohen Kamaus pitched a terrific game and gets a pop up to himself to end the game. Lisbon wins 5-3. 

Lisbon won the game with only 4 hits, the big one a double by Luke Czaranecki, driving in the go ahead run in the 7th. Alex Bock, Landon Stolte, Hunter Clark all added a hit. Kaden Caspers finished with 2 RBI. Cohen Kamaus earned the win going 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and no earned runs.

Conner Beeler and Boston Doeschot both had 2 hits for Kingsley Pierson, their only 4 hits in the game. Evan Neumann and Beau Bubke each had an RBI.

Lisbon advances to the State Championship game against St Mary’s, Remsen on Friday. They are 27-3. Kingsley Pierson ends the season 27-5.
