Williamsburg and Underwood wrapped up the second night of quarterfinal games at Merchants Park in Carroll Tuesday night. In the top of the first inning, Williamsburg went in order. Underwood came to bat in the home half and showed why they are one of the best hitting teams in the Class 2A by taking an early 3-0. Both teams went scoreless in the second. In the top of the third inning Williamsburg was able to cut into the Underwood lead by getting a run on one hit to trail 3-1. In the home half of the third inning, Underwood opened the game up with four runs on four hits to extend their lead 7-1 over Williamsburg. In the fourth, Williamsburg started a comeback, getting another run on the board to tail 7-2. Underwood threw their ace, and he dominated despite giving up two runs in four innings of gameplay. In the top of the fifth inning, Williamsburg picked up two hits but stranded two runs and still trailed 7-2 to the bottom half. Underwood went in order in the fifth and sixth but still led 7-2 to the top of the seventh inning. Williamsburg went in order in the top of the seventh, and Underwood would win 7-2.
Underwood scored seven runs on six hits and committed an error in the field. For Williamsburg, they scored two runs on six hits and committed one field error. With the win, Underwood advances to the state semifinals on Thursday.
