Pocahontas Area At Kuemper- Class 2A District 3 Semifinal

Pocahontas Area 1 (5 Innings)
Kuemper took control early and rolled to a District Semifinal win, scoring in every inning on their way to a 12-1, 5 inning win. The Knights garnered 10 hits, holding the Indians to 3 hits. Kuemper had 1 error, which didn’t hurt them, while taking advantage of every mistake made by the Indians. Pocahontas Area had 5 errors, allowing 4 unearned runs, while walking 5 and hitting one.
Pocahontas Area left runners on 1st and 2nd in the top 1st as Mason Knerl was able to get out of trouble with a couple fly balls to left field. The Knights struck in the bottom half, taking control of the game with 4-hits, including a double by Trevor Rial and Kuemper scored 3 times. Carter Putney started it with a bunt single, then with 2-outs, Ethan Loew singled, Koby Lampman singled and Rial doubled. Loew, Lampman and Rial all had an RBI. The Indians got a 1-out walk in the 2nd inning and scored, pulling within 3-1. The Knights put the game away in the bottom half, batting around the lineup. Max Irlmeier walked and Evan Loew reached on an error. Benicio Lujano walked, followed by walks from Ethan Loew and Koby Lampman. Trevor Rial reached on an error Kuemper scored 3 times on no hits with 4 walks and 2 errors. Kuemper forced Pocahontas to change pitchers in the 1st inning, then the Indians made another pitching change heading into the 4th. Kuemper took advantage in the bottom 4th, scoring 5-runs with hits by Logan Sibenaller, Carter Putney, Ethan Loew, Koby Lampman and Cooper Pottebaum. Carter Putney took over for Mason Knerl, who was sharp through 4 innings and Putney shut the Indians down in the 5th to end the game.
The Knights finished with 10 hits, with Logan Sibenaller, Carter Putney, Ethan Loew and Koby Lampman all having 2 hits. Sibenaller added a pair of RBI and scored twice. Putney stole 3 bases and Loew added a pair of RBI and scored twice. Koby Lampman drove in 3-runs and scored twice. Trevor Rial doubled, driving in a run. Mason Knerl went 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run.
The Knights improve to 24-10 and will host Manson NW Webster on Saturday in the District Final.

Coon Rapids Bayard suffered a heart wrenching loss, having started to celebrate on what most in the ballpark thought was strike 3 to end the game. Mount Ayr got a reprieve, with the pitch called a ball and on the next pitch, a 3-2 count, they drove the ball down the right field line, scoring all three runners on base, taking their first lead of the game. The Crusaders had struggled all game on offense, collecting just 1 hit and went in order in the bottom half of the 7th, falling 3-2. Coon Rapids Bayard struck first, scoring in the 2nd inning. Parker Hays walked and stole 2nd base. He was bunted to 3rd and scored on a suicide bunt by Ty Heydon. Kolby Culbertson was strong on the hill, allowing a double to open the game, but striking out 3 in the 1st inning to get out of trouble. Culbertson struck out at least one batter in every inning, striking out the side in the 4th inning and getting 2 strikeouts in both the 5th and 6th inning. He finished with 14 strikeouts. Mount Ayr threatened in the 1st and had a runner at 2nd base in the 3rd and 5th inning, then left runners on the corners in the 6th. Coon Rapids Bayard added to their lead in the 5th, loading the bases on walks to Ty Heydon, Wyatt Oswald and Jace Baker. Heydon scored on a passed ball, extending the lead to 2-0. Mount Ayr started the 7th with a single, then struck out twice before a walk and hit-by-pitch loaded the bases. The triple down the right field line, scored all 3-runners, turning into the game winner.
Kolby Culbertson had a single for the Crusaders only hit. He took the loss, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs with 14 strikeouts. Parker Hays walked and scored and Ty Heydon added an RBI and scored once.
The Crusaders end the season 25-5.

IKM-Manning got their first baserunner of the game in the 3rd inning, when Kasche Huehn walked. They trailed 7-0 at the time, allowing the Hawks to score 7-runs in the 1st inning. St Mary’s added 3 more runs in the 3rd inning and 2 in the 4th inning, taking a 12-0 lead. The Wolves got on the board in the 5th, Ross Kusel walked and stole 2nd base. scoring on a double by Jace Starman. IKM-Manning wasn’t able to score again and the game ended after 5 innings.
Jace Starman had the lone hit for IKM-Manning, doubling to drive in a run. Ross Kusel walked and scored and Kasche Huehn walked. Cooper Perdew took the loss, going 1 inning, allowing 6 hits and 6 earned runs.
The Wolves ended the season 10-16.
