The Crusader’s season ended on the road against Newell-Fonda Wednesday night. Newell-Fonda entered the game as the number four ranked team in class 1A. CRB scored the game’s first run, plating a single run in the top of the first inning. Newell-Fonda answered by tieing the game up at 1-1, going to the second inning. Newell-Fonda took their first lead of the game in the home half of the second inning, plating three runs, and then added four more in the third to take an 8-1 lead over CRB. The Crusaders added another run in the top of the fourth inning to take the score 8-2. CRB continued their comeback, plating another run in the fifth, but Newell-Fonda responded with a single run in the home half to make the score 9-3. Both teams added another run in the sixth, and Newell-Fonda would go on to win 10-4 over CRB.

Crusaders picked up four hits in the game, with Malia Clayburg recording three. CRB pitching struggled in the game, walking 10 Newell-Fonda hitters and only striking out one. Anna Hart went all six innings giving up eight hits and four earned runs. CRB committed four errors that led to six unearned runs for Newell-Fonda. The Crusaders season ends on Wednesday with a final record of 11-15.

GTRA at Glidden-Ralston- Class 1A Region 2

Glidden-Ralston advanced deeper in the playoffs with a home victory against GTRA Wednesday night. The Wildcats fell down early but took the lead later in the game and never looked back. GTRA scored the game’s first runs by plating a run in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead over Glidden-Ralston. The Wildcats were able to tie the game up in the bottom of the third inning, making the score 2-2 in the fourth. In the home half of the fourth, the Wildcats extended their lead to 6-2 after plating four more runs. Glidden-Ralston continued to build their lead by plating one more run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to make the score 9-2 Wildcats. In the top of the seventh inning, GTRA attempted a comeback but fell short 9-3 to Glidden-Ralston.

The Wildcats recorded 14 hits in the win. Vanessa Koehler and Tiela Janson each recorded three hits in the game. Ashlynn Tigges and Jaelyn Subbert also had multiple hits. Koehler went all seven innings in the circle for the Wildcats, giving up eight hits, two earned runs, and striking out seven GTRA hitters. With the win, Glidden-Ralston’s record improved to 15-7. The Wildcats advance in the class 1A playoffs to take on Newell-Fonda on Friday.

The Wheelers saw their season end on Wednesday with a close loss on the road to a good Exira-EHK team. Audubon scored the game’s first run, plating a single run in the top of the first inning. Exira-EHK responded by tieing the game at 1-1 in the home half of the first. The score stayed tied going to the bottom of the third when Exira-EHK took their first lead by plating two runs to take a 3-1 lead. Audubon cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but Exira-EHK responded again by making the lead 4-2 going to the sixth. Audubon went scoreless the rest of the game and lost to Exira-EHK 4-2 in the class 1A playoffs.

Audubon picked up five hits in the game, with Jordan Porsch picking up two hits. Kylee Hartl, Michelle Brooks, and Jordan Mulford also recorded hits in the game. Alexis Obermeier went the distance in the circle, pitching six innings and taking the loss. She gave up five hits, three earned runs and struck out three Exira-EHK hitters. The Wheeler’s season wraps up with a 16-9 record.

East Sac County at Kuemper- Class 2A Region 3

East Sac County picked up a big win over Kuemper as the Knights saw their season come to an end Wednesday night. Over half of the combined five runs scored in the first inning, and both pitches bounced back nicely after rocky innings. In the top of the first inning, ESC plated three runs off an RBI single from Jen Aschinger and a two-RBI triple by Jamie Pierce. All of the Raider’s runs in the first came with two outs. After an up-and-down first inning, Myli Schaefer pitched well in the circle for the Knights. Kuemper got a run back in the home half of the second inning when Alexis Dierckson worked a walk and came around to score on a wild pitch. Kuemper worked three walks in the inning, all coming on 4-0 counts. After each pitch struggled in one of the first two innings, the score would stay dead-locked at 3-1. In the fourth inning, Pierce came to bat with one gone in the inning a ripped a double to center field but could not come around to score, keeping the score at 3-1. Anna McCollough picked up the next Raider hit in the top of the seventh put but was also unable to score, and the ESC took a 3-1 lead of Kuemper going to the bottom of the seventh. The Knights were able to score a run, but that would be it, as Kuemper would lose 3-2 at home Wednesday night.

Myli Schaefer pitched her best game of the year, going all seven innings for Kuemper, giving up zero earned runs, and striking out 11 ESC hitters. Kuemper did not record a hit in the game but worked six walks in the game. Maci Gustavson pitched her second straight no-hitter for ESC to begin postseason action. She went all seven innings striking out four but walking six while giving up no earned runs. The Raiders picked up six hits in the game, with Jamie Pierce recording two.

The loss ends Kuemper’s season at 17-21, while the win improves ESC to 8-15. The Raiders advance in the class 2A region three playoffs to take on Pocahontas Area on Friday.
