The Carroll Tigers wrap up the regular season in the win column with a five-inning double-digit victory over Winterfest at home Monday night. The Tigers broke the game open in the first inning, plating seven runs. Chase Ragaller, Ryan North, Jake Jorgensen, and Cooper Ludwig recorded RBI hits in the inning. Carroll scored in every inning. Ludwig continued his excellent night with another RBI single in the bottom of the second. Dreylen Schweitzer drove in his second run of the game with an RBI sac fly, and Carroll took a 9-0 lead over Winterset. In the top of the third inning, Winterset came back to cut the Carroll lead to 9-6. Carroll extended their lead to 15-6 in the home half of the fourth and then added another run in the fifth to win 16-6 over Winterest by run rule.

Carroll picked up 13 hits in the game. Tate Schleisman, Ragaller, Ludwig, and Jorgensen all record multiple hits in the game. Stone Sibenaller and Linkin Weitl combined to go five innings on the hill for the Tigers. They also gave up six unearned runs and four hits and struck out three Winterest hitters. The Tigers wrap up the regular season 7-21 and 3-13 in Raccoon River Conference play. Carroll’s next game is on Friday as they open up the playoffs on the road at Lewis Central.

Postseason Baseball 

Panorama at Coon-Rapids Bayard- Class 1A District 12

The Crusaders opened the class 1A playoffs with an extra-inning battle against a three-win Panorama team. CRB only record five hits in the game. Panorama scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning off of one hit to take a 1-0 lead over CRB. After going in order in the home half of the first, the Crusaders were able to take their first lead of the game in the second, plating two runs on a two-run RBI single on the bat of Wyatt Oswald. Panorama responded in the third’s top half, tying the game at 2-2. Both teams pitched well. However, CRB had to use three pitchers in the game. As the game continued, CRB had multiple chances to regain the lead but kept leaving runs on base. The game would still be tied 2-2 at the end of seven innings played. Both teams could not score in the eighth innings, and CRB held Panorama scoreless in the top of the ninth. In the home half of the ninth, Kolby Culbertson game to the plate with two out and hit a walk-off solo homerun over the right field fence for a CRB win 3-2.

Culbertson was the only Crusader to pick up multiple hits in the game. Wyatt Oswald, Tyler Mohr, and Lance Clayburg each recorded a hit in the game. Wyatt Oswald had a pair of RBI and Jace Baker and Mason Culbertson each scored a run. Kolby Culbertson earned the win in relief, going 2 1/3 innings, striking out 2. Cade Behrens went 5 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts.

The win improves CRB’s record to 25-4. They advance to take on Mount Ayr on Wednesday.

IKM-Manning took advantage of 12 walks and a hit-by-pitch along with 2 early errors by the Wildcats to advance into the 2nd round of the postseason. The Wolves scored 4-runs in the 1st inning on 1 hit, finishing the game with 9-runs on 2 hits. The Wildcats had chances but ran themselves into trouble on the base paths and left runners in scoring position in the 2nd and 4th innings, before the game got away from them. 

Lane Sams struck out the game’s first-three hitters, setting up a big 1st inning for the Wolves. Ben Ramsey and Reed Hinners reached on errors to start the bottom 1st, then Cooper Perdew and Zander Richards walked with Richards getting an RBI. Lane Sams flew out, driving in a run, Ross Kusel singled to score a run and Kasche Huehn walked to score the fourth run of the inning. Walks to Lane Sams and Ross Kusel to start the 3rd inning, scoring on a balk and a wild pitch, giving the Wolves a 6-0 lead. Glidden Ralston had a chance to answer in the 2nd with Waylon Hein at 3rd base and Dawson Majerus at 1st but they didn’t score. The Wildcats got two runners on base in the 3rd but both were picked off. Jackson Sklenar walked to lead off the 4th and scored on a single by Dawson Majerus, pulling them within 6-1. The Wolves responded in the bottom half of the 4th, scoring 3-runs on 1 hit. Zander Richards walked and Bryc Summerfield walked, Lane Sams flew out, scoring Richards, Ross Kusel walked and Jace Starman hit a double to left-centerfield, scoring two and the Wolves led 9-1. The Wildcats went down in order in the 5th and 6th innings, then got the leadoff runner on in the 7th but weren’t able to score. 

Jace Starman had a double with a pair of RBI for the Wolves. Zander Richards had an RBI and scored twice. Ross Kusel added an RBI single and scored twice. Lane Sams added 2 RBI and scored a run. Sams earned the win on the hill, going 3 2/3 innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run with 7 strikeouts. 

Dawson Majerus and Ethan Olberding had the hits for the Wildcats with Jackson Sklenar scoring the run and Majerus having an RBI. Colby Wallace took the loss, going 2+ innings with 2 earned runs and 1 hit with 5 walks. 

The Wolves moved to 10-15 and will head to St Mary’s Remsen (26-2) on Wednesday. Glidden Ralston ends their season at 6-15.
