Kuemper edges Carroll in a good ball game on Friday night with the Knights using a 3-run top of the 6th inning to put distance between them and the Tigers. Carroll kept battling back and had the tying run at the plate in both the 6th and 7th innings. Kuemper won despite having 3 errors and Carroll playing mistake free baseball. The Knights out hit the Tigers 7 to 5. Both teams had a few key plays defensively. Chase Ragaller made a couple nice catches in foul territory at 3rd, including a catch as he was leaning against the fence down the foul line in the 1st inning. Trevor Rial had a nice running catch at shortstop on a play up the middle and Carter Putney made a important catch for the Knights that kept the Tigers from scoring in the 5th.

Kuemper struck first in the 3rd inning. Getting their leadoff runner on with Cooper Pottebaum singling. A Max Irlmeier bunt moved Pottebaum to 2nd base. Evan Loew walked and Carter Putney ripped a deep 2-run triple to right field. Carroll answered in the bottom 3rd, Mason Vought walked and stole 2nd base. He moved to 3rd when Tate Schleisman reached on an error. Carroll pulled off a double steal with Vought scoring on the play. Carroll added a run in the 4th, Carter Essick and Ryan North singled back-to-back to start the inning. Jake Jorgensen moved them to 2nd and 3rd with a sac bunt. Cooper Ludwig walked, loading the bases. Dreylen Schweitzer reached on a fielder’s choice, but Benicio Lujano was able to get Essick out at the plate. Mason Vought singled to score Ryan North and Carroll tied the game at 2. It stayed tied into the 6th, when Kuemper got their leadoff batter on for the second time (other was the 2-run 3rd). Carter Putney was hit-by-pitch, Benicio Lujano singled and Ethan Loew singled to score Putney. Koby Lampman hit a sac fly to score Tristan Janson, who was running for Lujano. Trevor Rial followed with a single, scoring Ethan Loew. Carroll got one back in the bottom 6th with Cooper Ludwig getting hit-by-pitch and scoring on a dropped fly ball to center field. The Knights got out of trouble. Kuemper got an insurance run to 2nd base but didn’t score in the 7th. Carter Essick had a 2-out single for Carroll but the Tigers weren’t able to score bottom 7th.

Carter Putney had a pair of  hits with a triple for Kuemper with 2 RBI and a run scored. Ethan Loew and Trevor Rial had a base hit and an RBI each. Logan Sibenaller earned the win, going 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run with 3 strikeouts.

Carter Essick had a pair of hits for Carroll with Ryan North and Mason Vought both singling. Vought had an RBI and scored while North scored a run. Dreylen Schweitzer took the loss, going 7 innings, with 6 hits and 5 earned runs.

Kuemper moves to 23-10 and will host the winner of Saturday’s game in Manson between East Sac and Pocahontas Area. Carroll falls to 6-21 and will wrap up the regular season at home Monday against Winterset.
