Kuemper At Glenwood- Varsity Doubleheader

Kuemper rallied in the 6th, scoring 4-runs on their way to a tight win. They left two runners on base in the 4th in their only other opportunity to score with Kaylie Diercksen at 3rd and Ellie Sibbel at 2nd. They didn’t miss the opportunity in the 6th. Melinda Schaefer opened with a single followed by a double from Kaylie Diercksen. Ellie Sibbel singled to score both Schaefer and Diercksen. Morgan Masching came in to run for Sibbel and scored on a triple by Alexis Diercksen. Two batters later Diercksen would score what turned out to be the game winning on a ground out by Myli Schaefer. Glenwood had a chance in the bottom 7th, scoring a run to pull within 1. They took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd but Myli Schaefer and the Kuemper defense had held firm until the 7th. The Knights were out hit 7-5 but took advantage of their limited baserunners.

Ellie Sibbel had a team high 2 hits with 2 RBI, Kaylie Diercksen doubled and scored and Alexis Diercksen tripled, driving in a run and scored. Morgan Masching did a really good job on the bases, stealing 3 bases and scoring a run. Myli Schaefer earned the win, going 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs with 9 strikeouts.

Kuemper split the doubleheader, dropping the second game though they out hit the Rams 8 to 6. Glenwood took an early lead with 3-runs in the 2nd inning, responding to a Kuemper run in the top 2nd. Alexis Diercksen singled and scored on a single by Allison Ostrander to put Kuemper up 1-0. The Rams added a pair of runs in the 3rd, going ahead 5-1. Kuemper chipped away in the top 4th, Allison Ostrander singled and scored on a passed ball. Myli Schaefer was hit-by-pitch and Chloe Gehling came in to run for her. Gehling scored on a single by Melinda Schaefer, pulling the Knights within 5-3. The Rams countered with a run bottom 4th. Kuemper was done yet, scoring in the 5th when Kaylie Diercksen tripled and scored on a sac fly by Ellie Sibbel. Kuemper got a runner to 2nd in the 6th inning and to 3rd in the 7th inning but didn’t score.

Kaci Peter and Morgan Masching joined the Knights record book. Both of them broke the school record for steals in a season since the pitching rubber was moved to 43 feet. Masching had 4 stolen base combined between the two games and Peter had 3 stolen bases.  They both have 29 on the season, surpassing the record of 25, held by Bailey Nichols.

Kaci Peter, Alexis Diercksen and Allison Ostrander all had 2 hits with Peter steals 3 bases, Diercksen scoring a run and Ostrander driving in a run and scoring a run. Kaylie Diercksen tripled and scored. Myli Schaefer took the loss, allowing 6 hits and 4 earned runs with 6 strikeouts in 6 innings of work.

The split moves Kuemper to 17-20 to end the regular season. Kuemper awaits the winner of East Sac and South Central Calhoun on Wednesday, July 5th. The Knights will host the game on the 5th.

Glidden Ralston stayed hot, winning their third in a row and second by 10 or more runs. The Wildcats pounded out 11 hits with a pair of doubles, a triple and a home run. Vanessa Koehler had a really strong night, collecting a pair of hits at the plate while throwing a no-hitter in the circle. Coon Rapids Bayard saw their two game win streak snapped, allowing 7-runs in the 6th inning to end the game. Coon Rapids Bayard struggled on defense, having 9 errors, allowing 8 unearned runs. Glidden Ralston took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, holding that lead into the 4th. The Wildcats added a run in the top 4th and another in the 5th before blowing the game open with 7-runs in the 6th. Coon Rapids Bayard only had two baserunners and never threatened against Koehler.

Vanessa Koehler had a triple and a home run while driving in 4-runs and scoring twice. She might have been better in the circle, allowing no hits while striking out 14. She walked 2. Ashlynn Tigges continues to swing a good bat with a pair of hits and scoring twice. Jaelyn Subbert added a pair of hits. Elizabeth Lloyd and Kassidy Wenck both doubled.

Malia Clayburg and Brooklyn Burmeister both walked for the Crusaders only baserunners. Anna Hart went 6 innings, taking the loss with 9 hits and 2 earned runs.

The Wildcats move to 13-7 overall and will host Storm Lake St Mary’s on Friday in Class 1A Region 2. Coon Rapids Bayard falls to 10-14 and will host Ar-We-Va on Friday in Class 1A Region 2 on 93.7 KKRL.

Ar-We-Va collected 6 hits but took advantage of 4 walks and 4 hit-by-pitches to blow past Whiting for the fourth win in their last five games with the only loss a 2-1 walk-off loss to Coon Rapids Bayard on Tuesday. The Rockets got out quickly, scoring 8-runs in the 1st inning.  Amber Ragaller was sharp in the circle, allowing 2 hits and no walks. The defense was strong behind her with 1 error. Ar-We-Va added a pair of runs in the 2nd inning and put the game away with a 3-run 3rd inning.

Maggie Ragaller had a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Jamie Hausman had a base hit and scored 3 times. Emma Leiting scored twice and drove in a run. Jazmine Molina was hit-by-pitch 3 times, turning 2 of those into runs. Delaney Schurke doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Amber Ragaller added 3 RBI to go with her win in the circle, going 3 innings with 2 hits and 1 earned run. She struck out 3.

Ar-We-Va sits 8-10 as they head to Coon Rapids Bayard for a Class 1A Region 2 matchup on KKRL on Friday.

Griswold came out swinging, getting a base hit with three of the first-four batters, scoring a pair of runs. They added 4 more runs in the 3rd inning to build a 6-0 lead. The Wheelers bats didn’t get rolling until late, getting out hit 12 to 7. Audubon stranded a runner in each of the first-two innings and left two on base in the 3rd. They finally broke through in the 5th when Mattie Nielsen hit a solo home run with 2-outs. Kylee Hartl reached on a fielder’s choice in the 6th, starting a mini rally  as the Wheelers scored 3 times. Michelle Brooks had a single as did Payton Gust. Hartl and Brooks scored as did Addie Hocker, who walked. Griswold added a pair of runs in both the 6th and 7th inning.

Mattie Nielsen has been heating up, picking up a pair of hits including a solo home run. Michelle Brooks added a pair of hits, scored a run and drove in a run. Payton Gust had a single and an RBI. Alexis Obermeier took the loss, going 7 innings, allowing 12 hits and 9 earned runs with 8 strikeouts.

The Wheelers fall to 15-8 and will open the Class 1A Region 3 postseason Friday at home against Tri Center.

The Raiders led 7-2 going into the 5th inning but weren’t able to hold off the Indians who hit five home runs, pouring in 19-runs over the final 3 innings. The Raiders tied the game in the bottom 1st at 1, then took the lead in the 2nd inning. Gracie Snyder singled and scored. Kami Ross singled and Kendall Quirk walked. Both scored on a single by Emersyn Mack, giving the Raiders a 4-1 lead. They added 2 more runs in the 4th. Jen Aschinger singled and scored and Jamie Pierce doubled, driving in Aschinger. Pierce then scored on a double by Kami Ross. East Sac scored once more in the 4th to lead 7-2. The bats went cold for East Sac after that, working out a walk over the final 3 innings. Pocahontas Area took charge in the 5th, batting 17 girls in the top 5th, scoring 11-runs to lead 13-7. The Indians scored 3 more in the 6th and 5 in the 7th.

Emersyn Mack had 3  hits with a pair of RBI and runs scored to lead the Raiders. Jen Aschinger continues to swing a good bat, getting 2 hits with an RBI and scoring once. Kami Ross added a pair of hits, including a double, RBI and scoring a run. Jamie Pierce doubled to score a run and scored once as well.

The loss drops East Sac to 6-14 overall. They host South Central Calhoun in Class 2A Region 3 on Friday on KIKD.

IKM-Manning dropped their regular season finale, losing at Mapleton to end the season 4-21. The Wolves struggled early, allowing 5-runs in both the 1st and 3rd innings to trail 10-0. Their bats got going in the 4th inning when Alikxa McGinn doubled and scored. Taylor Beckendorf reached on an error, driving in McGinn, then scored later in the inning. IKM-Manning added 2 more runs in the 6th. Ella Richards walked and scored before Karlee Arp doubled and scored later in the inning. Alexis Gruhn added a 2-run home run, scoring Taylor Beckendorf in the 7th. The Rams wrapped up their scoring with a 3-run 6th inning.

Alexis Gruhn had a 2-run home run while Alikxa McGinn and Taylor Beckendorf both had a pair of hits. McGinn doubled and Beckendorf scored twice. Karlee Arp added a double and scored.

The Wolves head to AHSTW on Friday in Class 2A Region 2 to open the postseason.
