Kuemper had to rally, trailing 4-1 going into the bottom 4th inning. The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the 1st inning, then got 2 more in the 4th. They collected 2 hits in the 1st inning, 3 singles in the 4th inning and had collected 7 singles through 4 innings. The Knights helped themselves by only walking one batter through 4 innings to limit the scoring opportunities for the Tigers. Logan Sibenaller scored in the 1st for Kuemper after getting hit-by-pitch and scoring on a ground out from Benicio Lujano. They went down in order in the 2nd and 3rd innings but got a bunt single by Carter Putney in the 4th, followed by a walk to Lujano. Ethan Loew reached on a fielder’s choice, for the first out. Koby Lampman and Trevor Rial had back-to-back singles, each scoring a run. Cooper Pottebaum knocked in the fourth run in the inning with a ground out. Kuemper led 5-4, going to the 5th. After sitting the Tigers down in order, Kuemper extended the lead to 7-4 on a single by Cooper Pottebaum. A pair of singles, a walk and a Knight error led to a run for the Tigers in the 6th. Carter Putney spearheaded a rally in the 6th for the Knights, getting a 2-out double, scoring Josh Langel, who had walked. Benicio Lujano singled to score Putney and scored on a 2-run single by Trevor Rial. The Knights allowed one base runner in the 7th to end the game.
Kuemper collected 7 hits with Carter Putney and Trevor Rial each having 2. Putney scored twice and drove in a run while Rial had 3 RBI and scored once. Cooper Pottebaum added 3 RBI and Benicio Lujano had 2 RBI. Evan Loew earned the win, going 5 innings, allowing 9 hits and 5 earned runs.
Kuemper advanced into the championship game against Spencer, who defeated Pocahontas Area.

Kuemper couldn’t hold the lead after jumping up 4-0 in the 2nd inning. Spencer rallied, tying the game in the 5th and scoring the winning runs in the top 7th. Benicio Lujano walked with 2-outs in the 1st inning, which was followed by singles from Ethan Loew, Koby Lampman and Trevor Rial. Lujano and Loew scored while Lampman and Rial each had an RBI. A leadoff double by Max Irlmeier in the 2nd inning helped propel the Knights. Logan Sibenaller singled to score Irlmeier and Sibenaller scored on a double by Carter Putney. The Knights left a runner on 3rd in both the 5th and 6th innings, stranding five runners on base. Spencer had left three on base through 3 innings, then left a runner on 2nd and 3rd in the 4th. They broke through in the 5th inning. Back-to-back Kuemper errors started the rally which was highlighted by a 3-RBI double from Ashten Ver Steeg. Spencer scored 4-runs in the 5th, tying the game. It stayed that way into the 7th when Spencer Spencer benefited from a pair of walks, a hit-by-pitch and an error that allowed 2-runs to score. The Tigers scored 3 times in the inning, grabbing a 7-4 lead. Kuemper went down in order in the bottom 7th.
Carter Putney had a team high 2 hits as the Knights finished with 8 hits. Logan Sibenaller, Putney, Koby Lampman and Trevor Rial all drove in a run. Trevor Rial took the loss on the hill, going 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 1 earned run.
The split moves Kuemper to 18-9 overall. They host Clarinda for a varsity doubleheader on Monday.
