On Monday night, Carroll dropped a non-conference road game against a solid Storm Lake team. Carroll took an early lead in the top of the first inning off of a Carter Essick RBI single. Storm Lake would take the lead in the bottom of the second, playing four runs. The Tigers would cut in the Storm Lake lead in the second, scoring two runs. Cooper Ludwig stole second, and Mason Vought would come around to score on a double steal. Later in the second inning Ludwig came around to score on a wild pitch. Storm Lake extended their lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs. In the top half of the fifth inning Chase Ragaller had an RBI fielder choice, and Ryan North had an RBI ground out as Carroll cut into the Storm Lake lead, making the score 9-5. Storm Lake plated four more runs in the home half of the fifth and would go on to win the game 13-5.

The Tigers record eight hits in the game. Tate Schleisman continued his great season, going 3-4 at the plate. North suffered the loss on the hill for the tigers. Carroll’s pitching combined for six innings pitched, giving up 12 hits and striking out four Storm Lake batters.

The loss drops Carroll to 3-11 on the season. Carroll is back in action on Wednesday at home against Gilbert.

Lewis Central at Kuemper Game One

Kuemper dropped game one of a varsity doubleheader to the second-ranked team in class 3A. Kuemper outhit Lewis Central in the first game but was only able to score two runs. The Knights scored the first two runs of the game and took a 2-0 lead going to the top of the third. Lewis Central took their first lead of the game scoring three runs in the top half of the third inning off of two triples and a double. Lewis Central extended their lead in the sixth, plating two runs to take a 5-2 lead. Kuemper did not score the rest of the game and dropped game number one 5-2 to Lewis Central.

Kuemper left 11 runs on base during the game. Logan Sibenaller, Benicio Lujano, and Ethan Loew each recorded two hits in the game. Evan Loew and Ryan Sundrup combined to go seven innings pitched, giving up five earned runs and striking out seven Lewis Central batters.

Kuemper was forced to use five different pitchers in game number two of their doubleheader with Lewis Central. Kuemper jumped out to an early lead again in the second game leading 2-0, going to the top of the third inning. Lewis Central would cut into the Knight lead, plating a run, and would trail Kuemper 2-1 going to the top of the fourth. Lewis Central would take their first lead of the game plating five runs in the fourth, and they would add two more runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-2 lead going to the sixth. Lewis Central would continue their scoring run plating three more in the top of the sixth inning. Kuemper would cut into the Lewis Central lead and score two more runs in the home half of the six but could not score in the seventh and would go 0-2 on the night, losing to Lewis Central 11-4 in game number two.

The Knights totaled five hits in the game, leaving seven runners on base. Five Kuemper pitchers combined to go seven innings on the hill, walking 12 Lewis Central batters and striking out six. The losses drop Kuemper to 12-7 on the season, and 5-4 in Hawkeye Ten Conference play. The Knights are back in action on Thursday against Harlan on the road.

Newell-Fonda at Coon Rapids-Bayard

Coon Rapids-Bayard dropped their second game of the year in a blowout loss to Newell-Fonda. Newell-Fonda was the first team to score in the game plating five runs in the top of the third inning. They would add three more runs in the fourth and four in the fifth inning to take a 12-0 lead going to the bottom of the fifth inning. CRB plated on the run in the home half of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough as they would lose at home 12-1 to Newell-Fonda.

The Crusader’s first four hitters recorded all five hits for CRB in the game. Cal Heydon took the loss on the mound going two-plus innings giving up five earned runs, and striking out three Newell-Fonda hitters. CRB pitching combined to give up 11 earned runs and walked ten batters in the game.

The loss drops the Crusader’s record to 15-2 on the season. CRB is back in action on Wednesday on the road against Ogden.

Audubon at Treynor

The Wheelers got off to a quick start on the road Monday night but struggled in the fifth inning. Audubon jumped out to a 6-0 lead by plating six runs in the top of the first inning. Treynor would respond with three runs in the home half of the first inning and trailed the Wheelers 6-3 going to the top of the second. After holding Audubon scoreless in the second and third inning, Treynor would add a run each inning and still trailed the Wheelers 6-5.

The score would stay the same going to the bottom of the fifth inning. Treynor would take the lead in the home half of the fifth, plating nine runs to take a 14-6 lead going to the sixth inning. Audubon was held scoreless in the top of the sixth, and Treynor scored twice in the bottom half to win Monday’s matchup 16-6.

After Audubon scored in the first, Treynor scored 16 unanswered runs. The loss drops the Wheelers to 3-12 on the season and 1-10 in conference play. Audubon is back in action on Thursday at home against Underwood.

IKM-Manning drops a game under .500 in conference play after losing on the road at Tri-Center. Tri-Center scored the game’s first runs, plating two in the home half of the first inning. The Wolves would cut into the Tri-Center lead by scoring one run in the top of the fourth inning to trail 2-1. In the home half of the fourth inning, Tri-Center extended their lead by plating five runs to lead 7-1. Neither team would score the rest of the game, and Tri-Center would beat IKM-Manning 7-1 in Western Iowa Conference action.

The loss drops the Wolves record to 5-9 and 4-5 in conference play. IKM-Manning is back in action on Wednesday against Griswold.
