Creston At Kuemper- Varsity Doubleheader

Kuemper used a big 3rd inning to take control of the game, scoring 7-runs to push their lead to 10-0. Creston got a run in the top of the 5th to extend the game but never really got back into the game. Benicio Lujano singled to start the run in the 3rd, Koby Lampman, Ethan Loew and Trevor Rial followed that with singles with Loew picking up an RBI. Cooper Pottebaum walked and Josh Langel was hit-by-pitch. Logan Sibenaller drove in a run with a sac fly as the first-six guys that batted in the inning scored. The Knights sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning, taking advantage of several miscues by the Panthers defense. The Knights ended the game with 10 hits, allowing 7 hits. Ethan Loew was strong on the hill, keeping Creston from stretching hits together.

Koby Lampman, Ethan Loew and Trevor Rial all had 2 hits with Rial scoring twice. Logan Sibenaller doubled, driving in a pair of runs, Josh Langel added a pair of RBI and Cooper Pottebaum and Tristan Janson both scored a pair of runs. Ethan Loew threw 5 innings, allowing no earned runs with 11 strikeouts.

The Knights finished off the sweep with a great pitching performance from Mason Knerl and a strong defensive effort. The Knights took an early lead, keeping the momentum in their dugout with a pair of runs in the 1st inning, then adding a run in the 2nd inning. Creston nearly struck to open the game, Knerl walked a pair of batters but got a big strikeout with runners on 2nd and 3rd. The defense did a nice job in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th innings, getting the lead runner to keep the Panthers from getting a big inning started. The Knights got out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th.  Kuemper opened things up in the bottom 5th, getting a pair of runs on ground outs by Benicio Lujano and Koby Lampman, scoring Logan Sibenaller and Carter Putney. They added two more in the 6th, taking advantage of 3 hit-by-pitches and a pair of walks.

Logan Sibenaller tripled and scored twice while Ethan Loew had a pair of hits and Trevor Rial doubled and scored. Max Irlmeier had a pair of RBI and Cooper Pottebaum scored twice. Mason Knerl went the distance, allowing 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and walking 3.

The pair of wins, improves Kuemper to 12-5 overall as the prepare to host Lewis Central for a varsity doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game will be on KIKD 106.7 and on the CB Sports Network YouTube Channel.

Carroll got a huge road win in the Raccoon River Conference on Monday, putting the game away late with 5 of their 6 runs in the final 2 innings. Dreylen Schweitzer tied the game in the 2nd inning with a double. The game remained tied until the 6th, though the Tigers kept getting baserunners on base. They collected 16 hits, leaving 15 guys on base and the bases loaded in three innings. They had chances to break the game open and finally did in the 6th.  Carter Essick broke the tie with a bases loaded walk, followed by a fielder choice from Ryan North, scoring a run. The Tigers ended the 6th with Jake Jorgensen driving in their 3rd run. They needed to add runs in the 7th for insurance and did when Stone Sibenaller had an RBI single and Chase Ragaller drove in a run with a double.

Carroll had six guys with 2 hits and Dreylen Schweitzer collecting 3 hits including a double with a pair of runs scored. Stone Sibenaller, Tate Schleisman, Chase Ragaller, Carter Essick, Ryan North and Jake Jorgensen all had 2 hits. Ragaller had a double with an RBI. North and Jorgensen also had an RBI. Stone Sibenaller went the distance for the win, allowing 8 hits and 1 earned run. Sibenaller struck out 6 and walked 3.

Carroll improves to 3-10 overall and 1-7 in the Raccoon River Conference. They travel to Storm Lake on Tuesday.

Ar-We-Va may have played their best 4 innings of the season. Problem for them, the game was a 5 inning game. CAM Anita sent 17 batters to the plate, scoring 11 runs on 6 hits in the 1st inning. Give the Rockets a lot of credit. They didn’t quit and nearly got the game into the 6th inning. They had the bases loaded in the bottom 5th when the game ended on a bang-bang play at 1st. The defense had no errors in the 4th and 5th innings, shutting out the Cougars in both innings. The offense responded with a run bottom 1st, but scored 3 in the 3rd to extend the game to a 4th inning, after trailing 16-1 entering the bottom 3rd. Ar-We-Va entered the game with 13 hits in 6 games, finishing with 8 against the Cougars. They had scored 3-runs all season, scoring 5 on Monday. The young team took a few big steps forward on Monday.

Blayne Smith was perfect at the plate, going 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Wade Ragaller had a pair of hits and scored once. Wyatt Ragaller scored twice, getting a  hit and Devon Ehlers added 2 RBI with a double. Johnathan Riesselman took the loss on the mound, going 2/3 inning.

Ar-We-Va falls to 0-7 and will travel to Exira-EHK on Monday.

East Sac ran into a strong Mustang team on the road Monday, falling in 4 innings. Newell Fonda scored 4 times in the 1st, then ended the game in the 4th inning with 7-runs. East Sac was out hit 10 to 3, but both teams walked 4 times. Karter Ludwig, Jack Gullett and Landon Sporrer all singled for the Raiders with Gullett walking once. Luke Wernimont walked once and was hit-by-pitch.

The loss drops East Sac to 1-8. The Raiders host SE Valley on KIKD on Wednesday.

It was a tough night for the Titans, allowing 15-runs over the first-two innings in a 4 inning loss. Brock Nattress had their lone hit though they struck for 3-runs in the 3rd inning. The Titans walked 6 times and had 1 hit-by-pitch, taking advantage of the extra base runners. Alta-Aurelia was able to put the game away with a 7-run 4th inning.

Caleb Juhl  and Brendan Stone both had an RBI with Brock Anderson, Khyean Hawkins and Caleb Gaffney scoring a run.

The loss drops the Titans to 2-9 overall. They head to Pocahontas Area on Wednesday.

Coon Rapids Bayard celebrated jumping back into the Class 1A rankings on Monday by nearly letting a game slip away. Exira-EHK scored a pair in the 1st inning but Cade Behrens did what the Crusaders needed and gave them a strong performance on the hill. He allowed just 4 hits in the game, shutting out the Spartans the rest of the game. That allowed the offense to make a few plays. The Crusaders were held to 5 hits but it took until the 5th for them to stretch a couple together. Trailing 2-0 going into the 5th, Cal Heydon hit 2-run home run, scoring Kolby Culbertson, tying the game. It stayed that way into the bottom 7th. Kolby Culbertson got on base, setting up a single by Lance Clayburg, scoring Culbertson for the walk-off win.

Cal Heydon and Kolby Culbertson each had 2 hits with Heydon tripling and hitting a 2-run home run. He finished the night with 2 RBI and a run scored. Culbertson doubled and scored twice. Lance Clayburg had their other hit with an RBI. Cade Behrens finished with the 7 inning win. He held the Spartans to 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 10.

The win jumps Coon Rapids Bayard to 15-1 overall. They host Newell Fonda on Tuesday.

It was pitching dual early as Bryc Summerfield from IKM-Manning and Colby Wallace of Glidden Ralston controlled the opposing offenses. The Wolves had some chances, leaving 9 guys on base, including the bases loaded twice and 2 guys on base in the 2nd inning. Wallace battled out of trouble and Summerfield never allowed himself to get in trouble. The Wolves broke through in the 4th with a pair of runs, then added a run in the 5th. Glidden Ralston answered with a run in the bottom half of the 5th but IKM-Manning blew it open with a 4-run 6th. The Wolves had 10 hits, including 4 extra base hits with 3-doubles and a triple. The Wildcats finished with 5 hits, all singles. IKM-Manning made 1 error and had 3 errors in their last 5 games.

Ben Ramsey had a team high 3 hits for IKM-Manning, including a double and a triple. He scored once and drove in a run. Reed Hinners added 2 hits and scored twice while Bryc Summerfield drove in a pair of runs. Jace Starman and Ross Kusel both had doubles. Summerfield went the distance on the hill, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run. He struck out 10.

Mark Lensch, Daniel Thooft, Alex Daniel, Waylon Hein and Colby Wallace all singled for Glidden Ralston. Wallace scored their lone run off a hit by Lensch. Colby Wallace went 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out 4 with 3 walks in taking the loss.

Audubon lost a heartbreaker on Monday, having the tying run taken off the scoreboard in the 6th, then not able to keep the rally going in the 7th. Both teams started quickly with Riverside scoring in each of the first-three innings to lead 6-4. The Wheelers scored a pair of runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings, then tried to rally late with a run in the 5th and 6th, nearly scoring 2 in the 6tn to tie it. Riverside scored what turned out to be the game winner in the 6th.

The Wheelers had five guys with base hits, finishing with 7 hits. They were led by Gavin Larsen with 3 hits, including a double and a RBI. Carson Wessel, Evan Alt, Carson Wessel and Cooper Nielsen all had a base hit. Nielsen doubled, driving in a pair of runs while Alt scored twice and Wessel and Olsen both had an RBI. Gavin Larsen took the loss, going 5 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 7 strikeouts. The Wheelers had 3 errors, allowing 5 unearned runs.

Audubon falls to 3-11 and will head to Treynor on Tuesday.
