The Merchants dropped their second game of the season in a marathon game on Saturday. Carroll struck first with a pair of runs in the 1st inning but didn’t score again until the 6th. Des Moines responded in the 3rd with a run, then took the lead with a 3-run 5th inning. A 2-run 6th inning tied the game for Carroll, helping to send the game to extra innings. Neither team scored until the 13th when the Peak scored in the bottom half to win it. Both teams hit the ball well with Des Moines out hitting Carroll 14-12. Carroll had 3 errors.
Joe Scarborough paced the offense with a double and a home run, part of a 4 hit game. He drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Chris Hege added a pair of hits with 2 RBI while Michael Alt, Ryan Ladner and Bryce Yosko all had 2 hits. Yosko scored twice.
The Merchants fall to 7-2 and will host Des Moines on the CB Sports Network on Sunday.
