Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Area Baseball Teams Go 2-2 On Wednesday

The East Sac County Raiders picked up their first win of the season by coming from behind late to win at home Wednesday night. The Raider’s play was shaky to start the game as four of the first five hitters for GTRA reached base and scored. GTRA took a 4-0 lead going to the home half of the first, and ESC was able to get one back making it 4-1 going to the second. GTRA added two more runs in the second off of two ESC errors to take a 6-1 lead. The Raiders were able to chip into the GTRA lead scoring one run in the bottom of the second. Both teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings. GTRA scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-2 lead going to the bottom half. In the bottom of the fifth, ESC tied the game up, scoring six runs on four hits.

The Raiders sent ten batters to the plate in the fifth inning. GTRA scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to take a two-run lead of 10-8 to the bottom of the seventh. In the seventh, ESC scored two runs to tie the game at 10. Weston Dorst came to the plate with the bases load and two outs in the bottom of the seventh and worked a walk that drove in the game’s winning run.

The Raiders recorded seven hits in the game. Nine ESC hitters were walked or hit by a pitch in Wednesday’s game. The win improves the Raiders to 1-7 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. ESC is back in action on Monday against Newell-Fonda.

South Central Calhoun at West Bend-Mallard

The Titans drop their fourth straight game on the road against West Bend-Mallard Wednesday. SCC jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and one more in the third to take a 3-1 lead going to the bottom of the fourth inning. West Bend-Mallard took a 4-3 lead after plating three runs in the fourth inning. The Wolverines extended their lead in the home half of the fifth, scoring four runs to take an 8-3 lead. West Bend-Mallard held SCC scores the rest of the game and won 8-3 over the Titians.

SCC recorded three hits in the game but struck out 12 times. The Titans did show patients at the plate walking six times in the game. SCC used three pitchers in Wednesday’s game, with Carson Shaver going four innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. SCC is back in action on Friday at home against Emmetsburg.

The Crusaders continued their season’s hot start and shut out Glidden-Ralston on Wednesday, a matchup between two area teams. The score was close for most of the game. CRB scored two runs in the top of the second and then added another run in the fourth to take an early 3-0 lead. The sixth inning is when CRB opened up the offense scoring four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to win 9-0 over Glidden-Ralston.

The Wildcats were held to two hits in the game. Glidden-Ralston batters struck out 13 times in Wednesday’s matchup. Daniel Thooft and Dawson Majerus record the lone hits for the Wildcats. For the Crusaders, Lance Clayburg went four-plus innings on the mound. Combined CRB pitching gave up two hits striking out 13 and only walking one Wildcat hitter. Kolby Culbertson had a big night at the plate, hitting a two-run home run and adding a single. Cal Heydon continued his hot start on the season, recording an RBI triple and a single. Glidden-Ralston is back in action on Friday at home against Woodbine. CRB is on the road Thursday against Nodaway Valley.
