Mason Reicks of Kuemper – Class 1A
Mason Reicks of Kuemper had a magical run to the state tennis tournament; from being the 16 seed at districts to winning his district tournament, and finishing up his season with a win at the state tournament on Tuesday.
Reicks came into the singles tournament ranked 11th overall and had to take on 12th-ranked Josh Steffen of Storm Lake. Steffen got his way in that game winning 6-2, 6-1 in the opening round to knock Reicks into the consolation bracket. In the first round of consolations, Reicks was able to grab a win over Beau Bush of Pella 6-1, 6-4, and advanced to the next round. Ryan Schmit awaited him in the second round on consolations and Schmit was able to battle and win 6-3, 6-3 over Reicks, ending his state tournament run early.
