Kuemper Vs Clarke At Ballard- Class 1A Opening Round

Kuemper rolled through their opening round match, winning the first-five sets in singles to end the match with a 5-0 win. The Knights didn’t drop a set, going 10-0 in sets and never losing more than 3 games in a set. They finished the match 60-11 in games played. Max Reincke was the most dominant player, winning 6-0, 6-0 while Hans Kraus and Braxton Lu both won 6-1, 6-0. The Knights advanced into the SubState Fingal against Ballard.

Kuemper had the match slip away, up 3-1 in singles and leading all three doubles matches 1-0, taking a 4-3 lead in matches with two matches left to finish. The Knights fell down 1-0 in singles but rallied with three straight wins with Max Reincke winning 6-1, 6-4, Mason Reicks winning 6-4, 6-1 and Josh Langel picking up a 6-1, 6-3 win. Ballard rallied to take the final two doubles matches and tie the match at 3-3 heading to doubles. Kuemper went 8-6 in sets in singles play. They were 69-52 in games in singles play. Things looked really good to start doubles with the Knights winning the first set in all three matches but Max Reincke and Braxton Lu were the only team to hold on, winning 6-4, 7-6 (10-8). Ballard rallied to win the final two sets in the other doubles matches to win the match 5-4, going 2-1 in doubles matches and 4-4 in sets in doubles play and Kuemper going 42-45 in games in doubles play.

The Wheelers picked up their second win of the season against Harlan, knocking off the Cyclones 5-1 in matches and winning 9 of the 11 sets played. Eli Deist won a tight match to get the Wheelers rolling, 7-5, 6-4 followed by dominant wins by Sawyer Toft 6-1, 6-1, Connor Christensen 6-0, 6-3 and Carson Matthews 6-3, 6-2. The Cyclones forfeited the #6 singles match clinching the win for Audubon. The Wheelers went 60-36 in games.
Audubon played Glenwood in the SubState Final.
