It took overtime and a penalty kick, thanks to a hand ball, but the Kuemper girls beat West Central Valley 1-0 and Catherine Mayhall broke two more school records. Mayhall found the back of the net, slipping the ball past the Wildcats goalie, giving her 42 career goals and 20 goals this season. Both are school records previously held by Courtney Schenkelberg. She nearly had a goal in the 1st half, but it caught the crossbar. Then in the 2nd half with around a minute left Mayhall had a shot hit of the post, just missing bouncing into the goal. That helped set up the overtime thriller. The Knights had chances in regulation taking 14 shots on goal, with Mayhall leading the way with 6. Cierra Pudenz and Lauren Boell both had 2 shots on goal. West Central Valley narrowly missed a few shots as well, having a shot hit the crossbar, before bouncing off goalie Brianna Wittrock face and bouncing off the goal post and back into play. Wittrock made several other nice stops during regulation, finishing with 14 saves. Mayhall goal in the overtime was the only shot for either team in overtime.
Catherine Mayhall holds school records in two sports now, having broke the school record in basketball this winter. She finished the game with 1 goal and 6 shots on goal. Cierra Pudenz and Lauren Boell both had 2 shots on goal. The win improves Kuemper to 9-6 on the season. They travel to Atlantic on Tuesday.
