The East Sac Raiders broke their long five game losing streak as they notched a satisfyingly dominant win over Atlantic Monday.

East Sac’s last victory came against LoMa on April 4th, and they looked prepared in this game. The first goal for the Raiders was an own goal by Atlantic with the help of Will Smith to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead. That lone goal would stay until the halftime horn sounded. The wind plagued plenty of soccer teams on Monday and this game was no exception. East Sac Head Coach Sam Ellis says along with Luke Wernimont’s eight saves in goal, the Raiders’ defense was solid enough to preserve the shutout victory.

In the second half, Elias Aragon set up Sam Schmitt perfectly for another goal by the Raiders to extend their lead to 2-0. The cherry on top of the victory sundae was when Isaiah Aragon netted a third goal for the Raiders to keep them ahead of the competition. When the final horn sounded, the Raiders were finally able to get over the losing slump with a shutout 3-0 win over the Trojans.

The Raiders are now 2-5 overall on the season. They are back in action on Tuesday, May 2nd when they host AHSTW in a girl-boy double header.

High winds Monday made for a difficult time on the pitch as the Kuemper Knights traveled to take on Denison Schleswig.

The Knights had a nice five game stretch going into this game, getting past East Sac, Creston, and Carroll to go 3-2 in that stretch. Denison Schleswig has only dropped three games this season, one of them was the game prior to Storm Lake. The Monarchs showed their prowess early on in this game, getting ahead 3-0 by halftime. Kuemper struggled against the Monarchs’ defense, getting only three shots on goal, one each by Tommy Fitzsimmons, Emiliano Nava, and Carson Kanne. The strong winds also played a big factor in this game for both teams, making goalie and corner kicks nearly impossible to field properly.

The Monarchs in the second half put the game firmly in their grasp as they added two more goals to their total, making it 5-0. The Knights didn’t find any answers themselves and ended up empty handed. The Monarchs came away with their sixth win of the season with a 5-0 win.

Michael Kasperbauer had 10 saves in this game. The Knights are now 3-8 overall on the season. They are back in action on Friday, May 5th when they travel to take on St. Albert.
