Ar-We-Va, Coon Rapids Bayard, Glidden Ralston, and Paton Chrudan at Rolling Valley Conference at West Harrison
Area athletes from surrounding Rolling Valley Conference schools set new conference records and showcased their talents when Ar-We-Va, Coon Rapids Bayard, Glidden Ralston, and Paton Churdan competed at West Harrison Monday.
The Rockets had one of the best team finishes this season, finishing third overall with 74 points. Woodbine was able to win the meet with 160 points followed by Boyer Valley in second with 88. Glidden Ralston was right behind Ar-We-Va in fourth place with 68 points, followed by Coon Rapids Bayard in sixth with 46 and Paton Churdan in eighth with 23.
Ar-We-Va’s big day included two new conference meet records along with seven top-three finishes. Maggie Ragaller was a perfect 4-4 at the meet, capturing four first place finishes along with setting a new conference record in the 100-meter hurdles. She won the event with a new meet time of 16.45, followed closely by teammate Jamie Hausman who had a close time of 16.47. Ragaller was also part of another record-setting event being the shuttle hurdle relay along with Kora Obrecht, Hausman, and Elizabeth Brunner. The quad set a new conference meet record when they won with a time of 1:10.07. Ragaller’s two other victories came in the 4X100 relay, along with Amber Ragaller, Hausman, and Obrecht, where the team won with a time of 55.16 and in the 400-meter hurdles where she finished with a winning time of 1:11.12. Obrecht had two other top finishes with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.43 and third place in the long jump with a best jump of 14-04.25.
Glidden Ralston’s Vanessa Koehler was able to set a new conference record in an event she’s dominated for most of the year. She was able to clear 5-02.00 in the high jump for a new conference record. She also won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.35, the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 27.63 and was third in the 100-meter hurdles behind Ar-We-Va’s Hausman and Ragaller with a time of 16.91. Aside from Koehler, Ashtyn Klocke finished third overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:12.52, and the sprint medley relay, composed of Savannah Bannett, Tiela Janssen, Kassidy Wenck, and Klocke, were second with a time of 2:11.17.
Despite not taking home a first-place finish, the Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders still came away with six top-three finishes. The shuttle hurdle team, composed of Malia Clayburg, Aubrey Hofbauer, Mya Downing, and Ella Heithoff, finished third overall with a time of 1:18.77. Lydia Hofbauer, Clayburg, Heithoff, and Anna Hart were all part of the distance medley team that finished second overall with a time of 5:00.85. The team of Clayburg, Maddy Mason, Kadey Olson, and Hart competed in both the 4X200 and 4X100 events and finished second and third respectively. In the 4X200, they finished with a time of 2:04.72 and finished with a time of 58.14 in the 4X100. Ella Heithoff captured a top individual finish in the 800-meter run finishing second with a time of 2:52.63 and Anna Hart did the same in the 200-meter dash, finishing third overall with a time of 28.34.
Paton Churdan’s young team came up with some great finishes, including a top individual victory. Becca Anderson returned from injury and was able to win the long jump event with a winning jump of 15-11.50, setting a new conference record. Becca Anderson was also part of three other top finishes for the Rockets. In the sprint medley relay, Bailey and Becca Anderson, Ava Minnahan, and Kyann Fowler were able to finish third overall with a time of 2:11.77. Calleigh Fitzpatrick was joined by Bailey and Becca Anderson, and Fowler in the 4X200 relay where the team finished fifth overall with a time of 2:09.51. Finally for Becca Anderson, in the 4X100 relay, herself, Bailey Anderson, Fowler, and Fitzpatrick finished fifth overall with a time of 59.49. Fowler, Bailey Anderson, Fitzpatrick, and Minnehan composed the distance medley relay where the quad got fifth place with a time of 5:30.07.
