Both team started quickly with Kuemper taking a 1-0 lead, 12:00 into the game on a goal by McKenna Blum. East Sac quickly tied it at 1 on a goal from Cora Mahler, off an assist from Kenna Meyer. The defenses settled in at that point but the Knights kept the pressure on, striking to take a 2-1 lead with 25:00 remaining in the half on a goal from Cierra Pudenz. Catherine Mayhall extended the lead to 3-1 with 15:00 remaining in the half. The Raiders talked about being more aggressive at half and taking away Kuemper’s shots on goal. The Knights finished with 28 shots but the Raiders defense buckled down in the 2nd half, getting good play from Olivia Villegas in front of Denae Thayer who came up with several key stops in goal. She took a ball to the face, just before being run over but bounced up to make a save on a free kick. The defense sparked the offense and Kenna Meyer got rolling in the 2nd half. She cut the Knights lead to 3-2 with 34:00 left in the match. Her second goal of the half, tied it with 26:00 left on a penalty kick. The game stayed that way until Meyer scored on another penalty kick with 5:00 left. The Raiders held on from there to pick up their first win.
Kenna Meyer had a Hat Trick, scoring 3 goals with an assist on 7 shots on goal. Cora Mahler picked up a huge 1st half goal and Denae Thayer had 15 saves for East Sac.
Cierra Pudenz, Catherine Mayhall and McKenna Blum all scored goals for Kuemper with Karsyn Overmohle adding an assist. Mayhall had a team high 7 shots on goal while Pudenz and Blum both had 5 shots on goal.
The Raiders improve to 1-3 and will host Carroll on Thursday, April 27th. The Knights fall to 1-4 and will travel to Creston on Thursday.
