Boys Golf Results for Monday, April 10th, 2023

Ballard and Boone at Carroll

 

The Carroll Tigers had one of the best weather days to start off their week of competition as they hosted Ballard and Boone Monday. The Tigers as a team ended up runner up to Ballard who had 159 for a score compared to Carroll’s 169. Boone finished third at the meet with a score of 188. 

Bryce Berlau was the shining star for the Tigers at this meet, finishing with a score of 35 overall and earned medalist honors. Berlau talked with Carroll Broadcasting Sports Network following the meet and said he had good approach shots into the green and good drives on holes seven, eight, and nine. Wyatt Ragaller was another top performer for the Tigers finishing with a 42. In his first year out for golf, Ragaller told Carroll Broadcasting Sports Network that he looks to improve upon this performance and knows what he has to improve. Alec Ball and Alek Sinnard rounded out the top four for the team score with scores of 44 and 48 respectively.

The Tigers are back on the course on Thursday, April 13th when they travel to Winterset to play against Bondurant Farrar and the hometown Huskies.

      Glidden Ralston and Coon Rapids Bayard at Atlantic

       

      Coon Rapids Bayard and Glidden Ralston both traveled to the Atlantic Golf and Country Club for another Rolling Valley Conference meet to compete against CAM Anita, Boyer Valley, Exira-EHK, and Woodbine. The Crusaders continued their streak of success and picked up a team win by one stroke over CAM Anita with a score of 173 to CAM Anita’s 174. Boyer Valley kept the top three close with a score of 178, just four strokes shy of second place. Glidden Ralston ended the day with a sixth-place finish as a team with a score of 225. 

      Despite not picking up medalist or runner up medalist honors, the Crusaders across the board looked strong. Gavin Heiderscheit led the team with a score of 40 on the course. Max Shirbroun and Jacob Estrada had a one stroke difference between each other with Shirbroun getting a 42 and Estrada with a 43. Toby Benninger rounded out the top four scores with a course score of 48. Logan Kenyon had the same score as Benninger with a 48. 

      Glidden Ralston Head Coach Andy Golay says the Atlantic course was tough on his guys but thought they golfed well. Ethan Olberding led the Wildcats with a score of 54 followed closely by Carson Peters with a score of 55. Rounding out the top five was John Whitver who ended his day on the course with a score of 57 followed by Blayce Nelson who had two strokes more for a score of 59. 

      Coon Rapids Bayard has a busy schedule this week as competition continues Thursday, April 13th when they travel to the Des Moines Christian Invitational. Glidden Ralston is off until next Monday, April 17th when they have another Rolling Valley Conference meet at the Dunlap Golf Club.

          South Central Calhoun, GTRA, and Emmetsburg at SE Valley

          The South Central Calhoun Titans came away from Monday’s meet at Southeast Valley with a team win and great performances across the board. The Titans were able to outperform Emmetsburg by two strokes for the top spot in the team standings with a score of 178 to win the meet. GTRA was third with a score of 184 followed by Southeast Valley with a score of 201. 

          Justin Hanks helped the Titans by securing medalist honors with a score of 41 on the day. Nik Whipkey finished fourth overall with a score of 44, tied with Justin Wirtz of Emmetsburg, Drew Schnell of GTRA, Grant Householder of Emmetsburg, and Will Comp of Southeast Valley. Caleb Gaffney was next for the Titans, finishing the course with a score of 46, finishing 10th overall. Charlie Nattress rounded out the top four scorers for South Central Calhoun, ending up with a score of 47. 

          The Titans return to the course of Thursday, April 13th when they host Manson-NW Webster.

          Alta-Aurelia, Manson-NW Webster, and Storm Lake St Mary’s at East Sac

           

          The East Sac Raiders had some tough competition Monday afternoon when they hosted Alta-Aurelia, Manson-NW Webster, and Storm Lake St. Mary’s. Coming away with the meet win was Alta-Aurelia who ended up with a score of 158, six strokes ahead of Manson NW Webster who finished second with a score of 164. East Sac was able to tie up third place with a team score of 183 followed by Storm Lake St. Mary’s with a score of 213. 

          Carter Hogrefe for the Raiders had a solid day on the course, tying with Jack Bloom of Alta-Aurelia for medalist honors and played a playoff hole to determine the winner. Hogrefe was able to win and was crowned medalist with a score of 37 while Bloom received runner up medalist honors. Jack Gullet followed Hogrefe with a score of 41 followed by Bradyn Burns with a 48 and Carter Erritt with a 57. Chase Brockman was outside the top four for the Raiders but ended the day with a score of 60. 

          The Raiders are back in action on Thursday, April 13th for a varsity/JV CoEd meet where they will host West Bend-Mallard.
