p1188102

Ar-We-Va, East Sac, IKM-Manning, Coon Rapids Bayard and Paton Churdan at Audubon Girls Early Bird

Six of our area girls track teams were in action in their first meet of the season at the Audubon Early Bird.

The windy conditions didn’t make it easy for those short distance runners, but most of our teams pulled away with solid starting points for the season. For the host school Audubon Wheelers, they had four top three finishes including two crowns. Stefi Beisswenger, a returning state meet runner, took third in the 3000-meter run with a time of 12:13.01 but was able to take home first place in the 1500-meter run with a winning time of 5:30.27. She was also part of the winning distance medley relay along with Mattie Nielsen, Madison Steckler, and Kadence Sporrer. Nielsen and Stckler both got out to great starts for the relay and Sporrer kept that pace along with the relay team from LoMa. Beisswenger kept good time until she got caught in the last 150 meters of the race. It was a final push for the finish line where Beisswenger beat out the LoMa anchor by 0.54 seconds. The other top finish for the Wheelers was the 4X400 relay where Sporrer, Steckler, Addie Hocker, and Nielsen took home second place with a time of 4:28.29.

Ar-We-Va had a solid showing at their first meet, coming away with five top three finishes. Kora Obrecht ended up with three second place finishes including in the long jump with a best jump of 15-06.00 and the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.98. Obrecht told Carroll Broadcasting that it felt great to be back on the track after missing last season with injury. The shuttle hurdle team, who made back-to-back state appearances, started off with a solid second place finish with a time of 1:12.73. Maggie Ragaller, Amber Ragaller, Jamie Hausman, and Kora Obrecht composed that relay team. Maggie Ragaller also saw individual success with a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:14.48 and third place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.45.

IKM-Manning saw success in their relays and had some individuals place in the top five. The 4X800 relay, composed of Emmie Ring, Ali McGinn, Julianna Stribe, and Raegan Garrison, and the 4X200 relay, composed of Mabel Langel, McGinn, Hannah McKinney, and Taylor Beckendorf, both finished third overall. The 4X800 team finished with a time of 11:42.31 and the 4X200 team had a time of 1:59.99. Garrison also had a solid outing in the 3000-meter run with a fourth-place finish in a time of 13:01.26. Two other top individual finishes include Madelyn Snyder finishing third overall in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:17.18 and Grace Carroll in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.53.

Coon Rapids Bayard got a sense of what they will focus on this season with three top eight finishes at Audubon. Anna Hart had the best finish for the Crusaders with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a best time of 14.83. The shuttle hurdle team snagged a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:20.87 with Malia Clayburg, Aubrey Hofbauer, Mya Downing, and Ella Heithoff competing in that event. The 4X100 relay team, composed of Maddy Mason, Kadey Olson, Clayburg, and Hart, finished sixth overall with a time of 56.89.

East Sac has some great potential this year with up-and-coming runners and seasoned athletes for the Raiders. Hannah Pudenz had a solid outing with a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.88. The sprint medley relay team, composed of Pudenz, Denae Thayer, Jen Aschinger, and Mary Bontrager, finished sixth overall with a time of 2:08.55.

Finally, the Paton Churdan Rockets came away with a handful of top 10 finishes in their first meet of the 2023 season. Calleigh Fitzpatrick ended up with a ninth-place finish in the high jump with a best jump of 4-02.00. She was also part of the sprint medley relay team along with Bailey and Becca Anderson and Ava Minnehan where they finished 10th overall with a time of 2:16.59. Becca Anderson also got two other individual top 10 finishes, getting 10th overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.35- and 400-meter dash with a time of 1:11.97.
