Boys Track Results for Friday, March 24th
Kuemper and Carroll at Carroll Early Bird
The 2023 track season for the Carroll and Kuemper teams has officially begun as they competed at the Carroll Early Bird Friday afternoon. Both teams had plenty of highlights on the day, but the big highlight was the Tigers edging out the Knights by two points in the team standings 75 to 73, finishing third and fourth respectively. Glenwood would ultimately win the meet with 164 team points.
Overall, both teams saw great relay and individual finishes. For Carroll, Trey Hunter had a great first outing in the field events, specifically the long and high jump. He finished third in the long jump with a best jump of 20-01.50 and won the high jump with a best jump of 6-00.00. Ryan North, coming off a state cross country appearance in the Fall, continued to run the distance event well with a third-place finish in the 1600-meter run at 4:52.23 and crushing the competition in the 3200-meter run, winning with a time of 10:41.31. North told Carroll Broadcasting Sports Network that his goal for this year is breaking the school record for the 3200 and says he’s around 30 seconds off from the record. Other best individual events for the Tigers included Owen Klocke finishing third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.69. Two relays finished in the top three, being the 4X100 and Shuttle Hurdle. The Shuttle Hurdle team, composed of Carter Smith, Carson Tedrow, Cooper Ludwig, and Owen Klocke, finished in third with a time of 1:12.22. The 4X100 squad, composed of Austin Tigges, Trey Hunter, Jake Jorgensen, and Reece Ziegmann, also finished in third place with a time of 46.18.
The Kuemper Knights saw similar success in the field events, coming away with a win in the discus and three other top finishes. Chris Mohr was able to win the discus event with a best throw of 140-05. 2022 State Qualifier Evan Adams was able to finish 3rd overall with a best throw of 127-08. In the High Jump, Ben Gerken finished second with a best jump of 5-10.00 meanwhile Adams got another third-place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 44-06.00. The Knights in running events had some solid individual finishes with Koby Lampman tying up second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.68, Trevor Rial finishing second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.16, and Jacob Greving finishing third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.90. Kuemper’s best relay finish was in the 4X800 where Thomas Pottebaum, Tregan Beiter, Rial, and Greving finished second overall with a time of 8:58.74.
