Girls Track Results for Friday, March 24th
Kuemper and Carroll at Carroll Early Bird
The Kuemper and Carroll track teams got their 2023 season started on Friday evening where both teams saw some solid times and results. In the team standings, Carroll was able to finish second overall with 115.5 points thanks to plenty of solid relay finishes. Kuemper was able to finish 5th overall with 39 points. Glenwood won the meet with 189 points.
The Carroll Tigers had a standout day on the track with all of their relay teams finishing in the top three. The 4X800 and 4X100 teams finished in third place with the 4X800 team finishing in 11:40.88 and the 4X100 team finishing with a time of 53.01. The Tigers won three relays at the meet: the sprint and distance medley relays and the 4X400. In the Sprint Medley Relay, Marasyn Wittrock, Libby Perkins, Madison Tunning, and Marie Dea won the event with a time of 1:53.49. Wittrock and Dea were joined by Emily Puck and Katelyn Aden in the 4X400 relay where they finished in a time of 4:21.51. Finally, the Distance Medley team, composed of Aubrie Drake, Brenna Goins, Puck, and Dea won with a final time of 4:32.12. Individually, the Tigers won two events with 2022 state qualifier Shay Sinnard winning the Long Jump with a best jump of 17-10.75 and Dea winning the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.96. That jump from Sinnard also automatically qualified her for the Drake Relays with the standard being 17-06. She won the 2021 long jump event with a jump of 18-0.25.00. Sinnard also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.02. Emma Kuhlmann had a tough battle in Shot Put where she finished second with a best throw of 32-11.75.
For the Kuemper Knights they came away with some solid individual finishes. Ellie Sibbel, a state qualifier in shot put and discus in 2022, snagged the win in the shot put by two feet at 34-11.75, beating out Kuhlmann of Carroll. Sibbel also finished fourth in the discus throw with a best throw of 97-04. The Distance Medley and 4X100 relays had the best day among the relay teams. Megan Scott, Aubrey Heuton, Kaci Peter, and Charlotte Hackfort competed in the distance medley where they finished fourth overall with a time of 4:56.60. In the 4X100 relay, Scott, Heuton, Catherine Mayhall, and Kerrigan Irlbeck composed the team and finished fourth with a time of 54.20.
